shooting a screen

Post by maram »

Hallo,
i would like to take a sequence in super8 shooting some clips from the screen of the computer or from a beamer. Has someone tips to do it succesfully? What is better between beamer and screen? how should i set my camera?
i was thinking to do it frame by frame, taking pictures with super8 of each frame of the movie(through premiere or similar).....but don´t know about camera setting....please help!!!

Not sure about the beamer option, haven't tried this one. As for a computer screen, it depends what kind of screen you're talking about. You wouldn't need to go down any complicated frame-by-frame option when shooting an LCD screen. Older style CRT screens are different and will cause flickering, unless you can match up your frame rate with the refresh rate of the screen (unlikely with most cameras). Shooting frame by frame may be an option in this case, although I'm not really sure how you would set it up to prevent dark patches across the screen image.

Back to LCD. The main problem will be the lighting. Maybe someone else out here can advise on how to get decent contrast from an LCD screen - I've only shot an LCD screen on film once (on Standard 8 as a moving background image), for a scene where contrast wasn't particularly important. Other than this, I've also shot an LCD screen with a digital video camera on several occasions, and the loss of contrast was quite profound.

I did this years ago with a sequence from In My Image - using a Beaulieu 4008ZMII -- and the result was good. It was discussed in a few threads here
