The Many Faces Of Kodak Film

Post by S8 Booster »

Toying with the Silverfast scanning software presets ... there are so many options...

the images below are the same origiinal 6x6 neg from 1980 and I have no idea what sort of film it was other than Kodak.
very different results but there ar at least 20-30 more options.........

so, which is most true?... - noe idea but i like the Porta, Max Zoom & Professional best ... i do not know other than that it was alte spring ....

sort of is no "true" answer to many film issues....

Hmmm. The strange circularity of computation.

By selecting various presets and looking at the result you can discern which filmstock is the most likely. Once you know which filmstock is the most likely you can then select the corresponding preset. And after selecting that preset you should get what you're after: the best result.

The Kodak Porta 400VC filmstock seems the most likely. So I'd select the corresponding preset.

And it should give you the best result.

just to give an idea of how many options there are. within each kodak type there are all sorts of film speeds etc. all different presets within 1 film type like the Porta produces significant alterations of the image...
