Moviscop 16 or 8mm editing viewer?
Hi,
Recently bid on a 16mm Moviscop viewer. Well it turned up. The rollers are obviously for 8mm film and the slot above the film gate is 8mm wide. I have no knowledge at all of these viewers, can someone please confirm that there is not a magic button somewhere which automatically transforms this item from an 8 to a 16mm viewer?
Another 8mm viewer I do not need
Thanks,
Ric

That's a shame - while I do NOT have first hand knowledge, from my research/unsuccessful bidding over the years, they are completely different units. Only did 8 and 16 (separate units) but I have never seen a super 8 version. I was always looking for the 8mm version! Ha.
Cheers,
Mike

I have a 16mm moviscop--I didn't even know they made an 8mm version. Never seen one. But hey, if they advertised it wrong, just send it back.

Yes, they made both gauges and they are separate and different. The 8mm one goes for about fifteen quid, on eBay, while the 16mm goes for maybe thirty - more sometimes if they're in superb condition. They share a varnished baseplate, and winders, and the wood is drilled with different screwholes for each model to keep the film track correct. They are excellent viewers and it's good to have both models maybe ...

Thanks to Jorg and all!
It's this one:-

It must be the 8mm version - the vendor hasn't bothered to check which gauge he had to sell. Am now in the process of trying to translate this ghastly muck-up into Italian. Thank goodness for Babelfish!

Thanks: it looks like the baseplate is for a different version anyway because the viewer sits loosely within the slots in the wooden base. I have several single / dual 8 viewers, I really do not need another one plus I am desperate to film and view 16mm footage from my H16. This fiasco will probably set me back months I fear.StoneBuilder wrote:Yes, they made both gauges ... Moviscops are OK but a superior viewer is the Moviola M50. Bigger, brighter screen with much less flicker. Has a 8-sided prism I believe.

Thanks Jean-Louis,

Well I will be looking afresh after the current situation is resolved [sigh].

Yes, it's built in...but I use a Bolex 16mm splicer. It's simply the best splicer in existence.

I have that, but the blades are pretty much blunt now - luckily the splicer has always been dual gauge. What is the name of the viewer please?super8man wrote:Yes, it's built in...but I use a Bolex 16mm splicer. It's simply the best splicer in existence.

Sorry, thought you would see it on the unit - it's a bell and howell FILMO 16mm editor. Very cool. The rewinds are attached on long metal rods so you really don't need to mount it to wood. But it helps.

Mike
