Hi -
I recently picked up a Nizo 136xl dirt cheap, only to find that someone had put some kind of penetrating oil in the battery compartment. The compartment isn't soaked, and I was able to get a lot of the oil out, but the electrics on the camera are totally dead. The battery check light does not light up when I turn the exposure dial to "control," so I am guessing that there is no current getting to the camera.
My question is, should I be looking for a problem beyond the oil? Will it be possible for me to resurrect this camera or should I start using it as a paperweight?
Thanks for your help,
Aaron

Re: Nizo repair question
It's a paperweight right now so you might as well tear into it and see what you can find. I would certainly get all that oil out and get the battery compartment and any electric components dry and oil free then see what happens. It's probably just shorting out the proper connection due to the moisture from the oil. Maybe set up the batteries in a different way and bypass the battery compartment and see if you can get it back to life that way, If so then you know the oil soaked compartment is the problem.

Re: Nizo repair question
It is a $5 camera. Isn't it better to just find another?
If they sprayed it the oil will be everywhere and even in the lens.

I did, and it looks like the oil contamination is confined to the battery compartment. The contacts for the trigger appear to be clear and dry, as does the circuit board for the camera.beamascope wrote:It's a paperweight right now so you might as well tear into it and see what you can find.
One thing I did notice is that one of the leads (the black one) going to the remote socket appears to be detached. Could that be the cause of the problem? Also, I am unable to clearly see the leads leading from the battery compartment to the camera body. Should the be easily visible or will I have to dig for them?
