What will happen if Police find a Kodachrome as one exhibit?

Post by winbert »

It is in my mind if one day in 2012, Police find a roll of unprocessed Kodachrome as one exhibit of a crime act?

Can they process the image?

Will they contact Kodak to develop it?

Does any body in this world think about this?

Kodak must spare some of their secret chemical and ingredients in case this thing happen.

What is your opinion?

cheers,

They will probably have it developed as a black-and-white negative by someplace like Film Rescue. Color is not necessary for it to be used as evidence.

Likely the average policeman would not regonize it as an imagebearer :)

And what if a pair of twin brothers would be on the photo and the only difference is the colour of their sweaters :) Which would in BW be the same densities...
Kind regards,

I understand about B/W negative process for Kodachrome, but there is a situation (as aj points out) where the real image need to be gotten. And once it was processed in B/W negative it cannot be re-processed, so Police will not take a risk.

In electronic industries there is a common understanding to keep the spare parts until certain period before they get destroyed. And knowing the last batch of Kodachrome is made in 2006 (or 2007?), Kodak has actually to spare some of the Kodachrome chemical.

Or do you think those chemicals are actually available easily, just need to get the right formula (composition, mixture, etc)?.

Egads!

Can they process the image?

Yes as a B&W.

Will they contact Kodak to develop it?

Of course and they will be referred to Film Rescue.

Does any body in this world think about this?

No

Kodak must spare some of their secret chemical and ingredients in case this thing happen.

They could share the secret, I bet all the chemicals are common its just a formula afterall, but the hard part would be finding a working processor.

What is your opinion?

You should write a spec script about this for the CSI producers.

If it's to prosecute a serial killer they will spend millions to get it developed.

If it's to prosecute some corrupt politician they won't bother.

The chemicals are no secret, they are known. But try building a machine to process K14 material.

What would have happened last month if the police found K12 material relating to a crime? Same as they'd do in 2012....process B&W neg.

And no.....nobody thinks of these things.
The government says that by 2010 30% of us will be fat....I am merely a trendsetter :)

Unless the corrupt politician happens to be the person the police chief is running against in the next election.

If processed as black and white though, the vivid reds of the blood wouldn't really show. That would be a pity
