If Not For You,.... A Decadial Tribute To Film..

I not for you
Babe, I couldnt even find the door
I couldnt even see the floor
Id be sad and blue, if not for you
Nicked a few lines from Bob Dylan here as we are to travel out of the first decade of 2K.....some thoughts....not really new but....

As i goes - this is not new but film imaging is the only media from which we can see images without electronic aid of any kind. To me this has become an imaginary "life saver".

Through this decade digital imaging has probably progressed more than colour film ever did / do in its whole life time.

Even so DI is even more remote to me now as a medium than it was in the beginnig of the decade.

I simply love film more than ever, still or moveing ;) and i hope organic film material - kind of - will be with me as long as i am capable of using a/any camera.

I do now allways bring with me a 35mm still and 8mm movie camera in my car whenever i drive to catch whatever pops up in my way - on film.

I use digital imaging for job purpose - totally free of passion or inspiration.

Well, this is basically all at the verge of leaving one decade and entering a new.

Shoot .... more film....;)

I must say I totaly agree. I used to do digital, but after my camera broke down, I picked up my old 35 mm still, and started with S8 quite recently too. And now also N8 mm, and gona start with 16 mm soon. I also miss the passion with digital. With digital, I feel that there has come kind of "inflation" into pictures. Its just get too much, and maybe too easy too...?

I took a few pictures on Christmas Day, Bristolian countryside in the snow, with my Pentax K1000. Met a chap who commented: 'shooting on film? That's rare these days', which at least proves that, even at the end of the decade, there are still people around who know that film exists.

For 2011, I'm contemplating to upgrade my camera equipment. Initially my priority was to spend most of my budget on some digital movie camera (or movie-capable DSLR), but having researched everything a bit more thoroughly and thought about what I actually want to do with it, I now feel inclined to just grab a second-hand miniDV camcorder for my digital moviemaking needs and use the rest for splashing out on a really decent Super 8 camera.
