My camera has just stopped working for no apparent reason

Post by Nrk »

I was using my Nizo Pro yesterday when it just stopped shooting. The meter and power zoom work fine so I am concerned that the camera motor may have died though I don't know why this would happen or if it occurs often in super 8 cameras.

When I press the trigger nothing happens. I have removed the cart, tried it without a cart, put in a new cart, changed the batteries but nothing.

I have had the camera for a couple of years and nothing like this has happened before.

Is there anything I can do to test out what has gone wrong or am I going to have to ship it to a repair technician somewhere?

I have always been under the assumption that Nizos used belts within their mechs. For this reason I have always been leary of using one, or at least paying big dollars for one. My wonderful Bauer 715XLS died due to a simple belt. Arrgh...

Hi! Do you have the remote to test with - or a shutter release cable? Try these to see if the motor still works - it could be a problem with the trigger. I had a Nizo pro do this to me - nothing from the main trigger - but worked fine with the remote. Another issue could be with the power conductor - do you have the main adaptor to test with at all? I used the battery pack adaptor from the Nizo 801 macro and was able to shoot that way.

Hope some of this might be of help to you - either way I recommend to send it off to a technician to be fixed.

The big sound Nizos have the belts - which I believe is where the Bauer 715 and 709 got theirs from...

Nizos, according to an experienced technician (in Germany) who has fixed my Nizos, are quite 'easy' to fix as the body plates are easy to take off and you are in the workings of the camera. Some parts are easier to find than others but in general it is easier to maintain in some respects than other brands.

Thanks - good to know. Any ideas on who could repair my 715? It's been a while since I looked into getting it repaired. It's not like I need it but it was a great camera to use.

I have an ELMO 240s-XL and an ELMO 230s-XL with a similiar problem. The capsten motor and wide /tele works but the cart and shutter do not work. I took one side plate off but can't figure how to get the other side off. The capsten motor uses a belt and I can see that it works but without a schematic or the pc board I can't trace the signal to the what ever drives the cart and shutter. Anyone had experience with either of these cameras?

Is´nt the pro like a Nizo 800? Dont think they have belts.
I had one that did what you decribe. When I took of the side panel i found that a piece of tape had come loose and was jamming some cogwheels for the motor.
Just a thought.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I am pretty sure that I have one of the shutter release cables and so will hunt that out this evening. I don't have a power supply unfortunately though so can't test that out.

I have taken off the side panels before and so will have a look to see if I can spot anything wrong.

Does anyone have contact details for a repair technician? UK based would be preferable if possible.
