8mm magazine film identifying code

Post by camera8mm »

Anybody know where I can find information on the numeric code stamped on some 8mm film (not the edge code but the header number). Trying to find out what type of film it is. Calls to kodak and dwayne's have them stumped, oddly enough. Also where can I find what the leader dots on the 8mm magazine film are. I read this somewhere but now I can't recall where I read it.

Hi,

it looks like all codes have to be on the edge (s. links below). The only films where I've seen numbers on the header have been commercial prints (order numbers) or films with a standard countdown (like this one) ... and some/all of the ORWO-Double8/DS8-films did have a "UP 15" (or whatever their product-id was - it's two letters and two digits in all cases) stamped into the first centimetres and an "EXPOSED" stamped into the end. However these centimetres normally got cut of by the lab.
