One of the features of youtube that I find interesting is the 'discovery' section in which you can find out which external websites contain links to your video or embed your video. In some cases, likely there have been people who have taken a liking to your video and placed a link on their website or on a blog / public forum etc to share with others.
I looked up one of my videos ' super 8 time lapse' and clicked on some of the links given out on the youtube 'discovery' page. Some of the results are quite interesting and intriguing. I'm actually wondering if there are some mistakes here...if that is indeed possible. For example, one of the websites is some travel site promoting the Canary Islands. Now why on earth would such a site feature super 8 time lapse footage of an Australian city? I did a brief search on the site and not surprisingly, I couldn't find my video embedded anywhere there.
Another of the websites was called Middle 8 Music. This appeared to be an online store that sold recordings of musical artists. Again, it doesn't seem the likely place to feature my super 8 time lapse footage. And I didn't have the patience to search through all the many hyperlinks on that site. Another link from the youtube page led to the website of Peter Combe. For those not in the know, Peter Combe is a well known Australian singer of childrens songs. Intriguingly, I found a link to Middle 8 Music on Peter Combe's site.

And another of the youtube links led to a construction company that is based in South Australia, coincidentally the same state that my super 8 footage was shot in. The company is called Prospect Contractors. If you click on the 'Videos' hyperlink on their site, you are led to a page with info on a media company AV3D who produce videos for clients (time lapse and 3D seems to be their specialty.) There is also a youtube embedded video on there - looks like a construction video shot on tape.

So are these errors on youtube's part or do these other websites have some secret need to use / promote my super 8 footage for their own ends?

Good question. Interesting how people might take that for gospel without actually checking it out. We seem to assume too often that a company like YouTube would have accurate information and technology when in fact there's no one out there actually checking it accept enterprising people like yourself.
