which super 8 has smallest filter thread and run 24fps

Post by kontrabass »

I am new on super 8 and i just got some super 8 camera the smallest filter size what i have is Nizo 3056(52mm). I try to put a Iscomorphot 8 1.5x anamorphic lens on it, and it only works from 45-56mm.

I am searching a super 8 camera which has a smaller in front element and can run 24 fps.

I found
1)Bolex 160 super looks like has a 47mm filter tread but it only take 25/40 and 100/160 film. And the battery for the light meter is hard to find.

2)Beaulieu and leicina special can use smaller lens, but I prefer the aperture behead the mirror to get bright view finder.

Who can give me any suggestion about it?

Thanks jpolzfuss :D

I scanned the links you wrote, it looks like Rollei SL 82 has the smallest filter size.

I searched on ebay, it is not very popular and most rollei model are defect.

But according the rule you wrote that less zoom rate than 4x. Finally, I found an Agfa Movexoom 2000 on ebay which looks maybe has small filter size and runs 24fps. I couldn't find the information about the dimension of this camera. and the seller also doesn't know.

Braun "Nizo 136 XL" or "136 Spezial". Filter thread is 39mm.

Of course this is only a "rule of thumb" as you might always find exceptions to that rule ;)

Yes, it could be small enough. However the camera's lens is "hidden in a box" (that acts a sunshade). That box might be a great help to mount an anamorphot - however it might also be an obstacle as its opening might be too small for the anamorphot (or something like that).

BTW: Another hint regarding anamorphots and vignetting: The vignetting does not only depend on the camera's filter-thread and the rear-/front-diameter of the anamorphot. It also depends on the distance between film-path and the anamorphot's front lens: When you take a look at this image from the wikipedia
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Datei:Quer ... jektiv.png you'll notice that the green lines (extreme wide angle) will "go down" once they leave the camera's front lens. Hence no anamorphot can be "short enough" not to cause vignetting. Same applies to the red lines (wide angle). Hence I fear that one can only use "standard angle" (yellow) and "telephoto angle" (blue) with an anamorphot. The "standard angle" for Super8 is 15–17 mm according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normal_lens#Cinema . So you might end up with a usable zoom-range of something like 20-xxmm (with the xx being the camera's max. telephoto-setting). In case of pineo's "136er Nizos" this would mean 20-36mm = nearly no zoom.

Well 20-36mm / 1.5x anamorphic lens is about 14-24mm it is much better than 50-56mm on Nizo 3056. may be I will try a Nizo 136 with my iscomorphot 8. :D
