Transer format for Super-8

Post by ricohmite »

Addressed before on this forum but there is so much info, the opinions vary, the preferred technology appears to change every 6 months, the search engine is a little rough, and I know zippity-do-dah about such matters. I have a short piece set to a music track that I have shot in 64T. It is supposed to end up on Youtube. This is a very straight forward piece with just simple cutting, no effects.
1/ I was planning to edit it on a mac with the software that came with it. Is there something better? Something easy to learn with good results? Anything recommended for a PC? 2/ I am using Dwayne's to process and transfer. The order sheet asks you to specify format: NTSC PAL Quicktime AVI. I understand "format" but have no idea which one to use.

Any help will be appreciated.

NTSC = N.A. PAL=Europe

You can edit with iMovie but Final Cut Pro Express has more bells and whistles, I find iMovie very limiting because I'm used to having more tools.

Quicktime is an Apple product but you can work with either avi or quicktime on FCP. Worst case scenario is that you'll have to convert between file formats.

For PC, Vegas is a popular alternative to Avid or Adobe Premiere.

I think all of these programs are pretty easy to use as far as basic editing, but if you have zero experience with editing software then you might need to spend a day or two watching tutorials on the web to get up to speed.

After you've cut your movie figuring out the best setting to optimize it for a YouTube upload is another subject unto itself.

Why not just recruit a trained editor to do it for you and just be the producer. Don't have to do everything as a one-man show. That way you can observe the process and release a decent product....and do it yourself later once you've gotten your hands dirty.
