Re: Cool Tools
For those who haven't used this video player/trimmer/converter before, available for Mac and recently PC, it's a real gem and it's free. It can deal
with quite a few formats.

Re: Cool Tools
Just thought I'd bump this up since it was such a useful thread.
I'm sure there'd be some new additions - I'll have to think around to what I'm using at the moment.
Anyone in Australia (or overseas if you can get it) should keep an eye on Australian PC User magazine - every few issues they have their own software - called Ripping and Burning toolbox that they issue. It's written by Darren Yates and is a fantastic piece for encoding and transcoding. I think you can only get it on the mag's cover disc though. I don't think it's on the net but he has issued a service pack or two

I've been emailing him about updates and changes to handle avchd and lossless codecs and he's been very open to the changes, and done a few rewrites based on that.

vlc media player: http://www.videolan.org/
great free media player, perhaps the most reliable one out there. Plays anything you can throw at it. It will even play damaged or partially downloaded video files, and will do all sorts of stuff like streaming and transcoding.
Also CPU-Z and GPU-Z great free little programs for monitoring/showing info about your cpu and gpu......
