canon 814 & 1014 repair website

Post by Mr Blackstock »

Hello.

I recently purchased an 814 that was "dead on arrival" after buying it off ebay. I figured I had nothing to loose, so proceeded to dismantle it hoping to find the cause. On the way, i thought if a took photos of the procedure, and posted them, they might help another in the same boat. I also included some pics of a 1014 i picked up that was not working, still looking into that one. I did the same procedures on a 1218 i bought a year ago, again, D.O.A, and I got that one going to. If people want to see pics of that, I might be able to dig them too. Anyway, have a look at the website below, might come in handy...

The good news was, the camera now works great, and if anyone was curious, have a look at the site. If I have made any glaring errors, let me know.

I hope the pictures are useful.
cheers,

Great stuff, we need more great websites like these for various cameras, thanks for all the trouble!

I have a Canon 1014E that has a faulty trigger switch, camera will not run, might look into that when i have the spare time.

Thanks, I have a 814 which didn't stop once it's going unless you give it a whack on the side, after a while of that it stopped stopping at all. It was my favourite camera - such a great lens. I'm sure it's just a gunky contact and now i'll have the condifence to fix it one rainy day.

cheers

G'day.
thanks for the feedback, I had hoped it would be handy, and so far I have had a few emails concerning clarification, and they have all been positive.

I just worry that someone might be heavy handed with their camera and break it more....

gentle gentle.

thanks all.

Those pictures are very useful, Gareth, thank you for sharing this.

I have a 1014E myself that needs servicing, the pictures will be very useful for this. Next one: an 814 XL-S :o

No way you could upload this as PDF? This would be useful to store on the computer.

Great site, Gareth-- thanks for your time & trouble to share the procedures!

Fred, I recommend installing PrimoPDF, a printing utility which is basically a printer driver. You choose it from your normal list of printers, and it allows you to "print" anything to a PDF, and even append to existing PDFs. I tried it on Gareth's Canon 814 repair page and it worked perfectly.

I already use PrimoPDF all the time!
It's a great little tool.
I did not realize I could use it for this, too.

G'day.

I thought that was a pretty good idea, but when I created the pdf's, the file sizes were quite large, so instead I uploaded two powerpoint presentations, the files are smaller, less than 1mb each, and they are not protected so people can enlarge the pictures if they need to.

Maye your pdf creator can do each file for less the 8mb? Anyway, thanks for the good idea, I hope people can download and place them on other websites so they might stay online for a long time.
