I think that Canon has really good lens.
Yes, this lens is realy spectacular.

What is your opinion about this flickering Takahiro? The variable shutter blades? It can not be the power because this camera has separate batteries for the lightmeter.

PS: filming speed was 18fps.

Very nice results Fred.

The flickering you experience may originate from drying lube / wear in the camera causing slight speed variations which in it self may cause slight exposure variations.

Secondly the variable shutter blades may start "oscillating" slightly due to the same. I believe I see this on my oldest very battered 1014 xl-s which is extremely more noisy than my out of the box new 1014 XL-S which i haven´t got films processed from yet but it is in the works so I may get a clue but it is also 29 years old so the lube isn´t exactly fresh there either.

Gate wear may be another factor.

shot a lotto film ....;)

Good advice from a man with experience, Booster

Takahiro has confirmed the possible shutter blade oscillating. Now, if I ever find some time for it, i will see if I can open those Canon monsters. :D

In the mean time: I have two 814E models and one of those is not flickering at all. The other one has not been tested yet.

Here's a clip from this footage:
http://www.vimeo.com/6377661

It's my first HD test: 720p50. Please register (free) and download the full version. If possible, watch it on a decent player like MPlayerclassic + ffdshow. Then you can tweak contrast according to your system.

I have used interpolation to convert from 18 to 50fps.

Enjoy!

Thank you!

Is the clip playing fine? Someone on Vimeo is complaining about the contrast.

Looks good to me. :) On a PVA technology (suitable for pro-editing photo and video) Samsung 215TW. Runs good too on 8mbps ADSL.
Although some scenes have some darkish shadow areas. Possibly the weather not sunny enough?

The flicker was seen.
It is strange.
The difference of brightness is larger than I thought.
Does this flicker appear regularly?

Can the dial of the shutter angle be moved?
I want must to try.
"OPEN", "2", "4", Shoot the same image at each position.
Possibly, the difference between "OPEN" and "2" might be little.
It means it is not finished that the angle of the shutter opens.
In that case, the vibration of a little shutter blades becomes a flicker.
Sorry...It is difficult to explain in English...

No, it is random, I can not see a regular pattern.
you can see it here:

Yes it can be moved. And the shutter can be opened and closed completely. It can be checked on this model because you can see the gate from the backside of the camera.

I understand you very well... But how can I fix this?
