amazing. And how hard is it to install and use avisynth compared to premiere or FCP? I heard somebody mention it was quite complex to implement. tx

It is completely different. You must install Avisynth once. Then you never will see it again. From then on, a script (a text file made with notepad) and with the exention .avs can be opened with VirtualDub. Of cource that script must be made in the Avisynt langue. You must learn the basics from this langue. Virtualdub then shows the result from the script as a normal video file.

There is no GUI, no sliders, no buttons, nothing. Everything is plain text. For example to crop 20 pixels on each side from a video file you must write:
crop(20,20,-20,-20)
And so on...

Hello,

It's a long time I had the idea of doing my own film transfer. And all of you on this forum are always giving good and usefull advices and tips about this lovely super8 gauge.
I read everything I can about DIY film transfer for 1 month.
To my honnest opinion the videos shared by Freddy are the most amazing I've seen even compared to the super full HD blah blah halogenuros thing... Fred's videos are not just a contest of Technology but the real proof that super8 is just a beautiful, genuine and affordable movie medium.
So I want to try the DIY film transfer experience myself.
I didn't know anything about avisynth and Fred opened me new doors in digital movie filtering and processing. The avisynth wiki is really helpful.

I am really curious and interested in learning more about these avisynth scripts and the ones Fred use. I would really appreciate that you share with us a copy of the script you used on the anamorphic x1.5 footage. It was so impressive !
I want to try the avisynth process on my own computer to see how much time it takes to process an entire video and to see if DIY film transfer with the avisynth filtering software is the right technology for me.

Also, Fred said that he uses a wetgate system to clean the film, I am really curious to see what this system looks like and if it is hard to build on my own. I didn't find anything on the web about such a DIY wetgating system.

I had plenty ideas and project to do on this super8 gauge and was hesitating about paying so much for these professional HD raw scans on hard drive.
Learning from what Fred has done, I am now definitly motivated to build my own DIY film transfer machine and use my super8 camera more often than I did even if a digital vision machine camera costs 600€. That is worth the price.

Thanks for sharing your skills and your experience Fred. Looking forward to reading more from you soon.

New clip:

This time I have applied less sharpening and I have added some digital grain afterwards. Yes, I know replacing real film grain with digital grain is.....

PS: the build in filter from the 814 has caused the blue artefacts on the beginning (I think).

PS2: Windows is realy messing up levels and gamma on mpeg4 clips. Please download the full clip and load it in VirtualDub or play it when using ffdshow.

Dear Fred,
I'm curious to know the commands of the script that you used to your project. I can not deny that a similar project I wanted to make myself a bit more laborious. This was to scan the individual frames of any film with a scanner. Every scan I acquired n frames, then separate them with a software ...

I'd like to know what parameters you used for the plugin LimitedSharpen (now the official version is LSFMod).
One more thing: I get an error, use the command unsharpmask, seems not to exist. But this command exists on which plugin?

And one more thing: when you said that we had to run 3-step passing of unsharp, what parameters should be used?

Thank you very much for your wonderful job!!

Hi Klodenet,

All Avisynth questions can be asked here:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=144271
Unsharpmask comes from the Warpsharp.dll plugin.
All parameters are depending on the source.
Every source needs different parameters.

many greetings,
Fred.
