Anybody gotten replacement carts from Kodak?

Post by thomas »

Hi everybody,

I bought a bunch of S8 film from one of Kodak's notorious batches of jittering film. I have shot about 25 cartridges of this stuff; of these, about 10 have had mild to severe jittering problems.

I was wondering if any of you have been sucessful in getting replacements for shot OR unshot film? There is no way I want to pay to have the rest of these carts processed, since there's a good chance that most of them will be affected by the Jitter of Doom.

So far, I have written two emails to Kodak's Motion Picture film address and recieved no reply. If you have managed to exchange your filmstock, who did you talk to? (I am in the United States) Was anybody able to get replacement cartridges for problematic film they've already shot?

thanks!

Call them, I have found that emailing companies doesnt work very well, even when they do respond they arent usually very helpful. But when you actually call them you tend to be able to get a lot more done, especially if the person you are talking to isnt being very helpful and you can ask to talk to someone else who may be higher up.

I'm normally totally in agreement with you. But Kodak doesn't seem to have a telephone number for motion picture film support. I tried calling one of their toll-free numbers, wasted about 15 minutes trying to explain what I was calling about, and gave up.

Have you ever called Kodak regarding S8? What number did you use?

The only times I have really called kodak about super8 was to buy film, but I know of other people who have called, I believe the same number, and talked to people about the jitter issue. The key is most likely to stay on the phone and continue asking to speek to someone else until you find someone who knows what they are talking about. The number I have called was for their East Coast Motion Picture Films division, I can find it for you if you want, It was posted on here a while back in the thread about cheap K40 and PK59 mailers.

That sounds like exactly the phone number I need! If it wouldn't be too much trouble for you to find it, I would very very very very much appreciate it.

I checked through the last half-dozen pages of posts but didn't find the particular one you mentioned (I'm back on the forum after a pretty long haitus!)

Got 3 Kodachrome 40 cartridges replaced. I had shot one film and the two others were from the same batch. No questions asked. They didn't want the unexposed films back either. I could just have them.

Cool! Kodak is maybe the most consumerfriendly company I've come across. I love them!

I just picked up my replacements yesterday. It took Kodak 2 weeks to re-decide if they were going to replace my $300. worth of 7240 with a fresh non-jitter batch that just came in to Canada. Mine 7240's never had an expiry date printed on them. The 7 digit # printed is infact lower then my faulty batch, but Kodak assures me they are jitter free. They finally came through and also compensated me with 3 free rolls for my troubles. Kodak is pretty good like that. I guess with the digital era hanging over their heads, they don't want to piss off their existing customers.
