Uploading super 8

Post by The Seldon Plan »

Hi,

I've got a short film that i shot on super8 that i've finished editing and i'm wanting to upload it. The last time i uploaded some miniDV stuff onto youtube it looked worse than crap. What's the best way to go about uploading it so it looks half decent?

Cheers
Paul

Paul:

Just yesterday I noticed that my videos on YT were playing with a widescreen display. Even if the video is 4:3, it's displayed within the 16:9 box (but plays at 4:3).

I used to set my NLE to render my YT video's at 1024x768, to ensure that the video would get the "high Quality" option, but I just uploaded something yesterday that was 640X480, and about 200mgs in size. It uploaded, then after some time the "high quality" option became available.

Still not as good looking as Vimeo, but it does look better than it used to.

I don't know what their criteria is for a video to become "high quality", perhaps file size, but am not sure.

Also, their maximum file size is now 1Gb, and is still free. Vimeo has begun a "premium service" plan that is about $56/yr. Without it, you're limited to one HD file a week, and 500Mgs per week total.
