Beaulieu 4008 extension handle

Post by D_Odell »

Hi,

I was reading through the web for solutions regarding an extension of the badly Beaulieu 4008 grip. I found one on Michael Nyberg’s web which looks really comfortable:

And I got an answer from him that it was proffessionaly made back in the days. But I understand that this is really second hand market now, and I can't find anything regarding extensions for the Beaulieu model. Does anyone know where I can turn to, to get one?

Thank you,
David

In the recent past, grip extensions for the Beaulieu 4008 series cameras were offered by IJM Incorporated - http://www.ijmincorporated.com/IJM_inco ... _Home.html

It might be worth a shot to contact Irving about the handle extension, but tread carefully. If he has none available and says "we had trouble with the casting," I wouldn't hold your breath over it.

Have you contacted Björn Andersson, Filmkonsult Svebaco KB, Vidholmsbackarna 54, 165 72 Hasselby, Sweden - bjorn.andersson@brevet.nu, +46 (0) 8-38 10 74? He's a well-regarded repairer of Beaulieu cameras and has a large stock of spares.

We have had contacts.
This is not a original Beaulieu part. It´s mostly common in US but rare in EU.
I don´t have this in stock, it was long time sice it was produced in US.

I have contacted IJM Incorporated, I'll post once they have posted.

Other then a extension, maybe you could just adopt another pistolgrip for the camrea...

It wouldn't be so easy, since there's the battery switch and associated electrical wiring within the grip, not to mention the filter key slot (if you're still using the in-camera filters). The best solution might be simply to fashion an extension out of wood. For anyone possessing rudimentary woodworking skills, this would be an easy project.

?? This would be more comfortable than the original Beaulieu 4008 grip? Seems like a very coarse thing with spartan ergonomics.

The only improvement is the handposition which is more like the ZC1000 or 5000/6008 models and which is very stable .

What is actually the problem with 4008 grip? When the index is used for the trigger and two fingers are curled around the black-gripbody and the smallest finger supports the weight from underneath. The thumb in up position makes for a nice sideway support. All thought out quite well.
Kind regards,

André

I vote for the original...unless that last picture with it wrapped in foam, then it possibly might be comfortable...doubtful...and how much does that thing weigh? More than the camera?

Hi,

this wasn't supposed to be a debate, I only tried to find what options there is for an extension. I started a topic with several pictures at a Swedish forum: http://forum.voodoofilm.org/showthread.php?t=22357

And this picture show: http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/8042/72544518rk4.jpg

I feel that the front weight of the lens is quite heavy (Angenieux 6-80).
So an extension for the lower two fingers would be a nice add-on.

Otherwise there will be just tripod.

Two fingers?

In practical use there is one finger on the trigger. 2 at the grip and 1 beneath which does weight support. The thumbs does sideways support.

You are best adviced sanding a piece of wood to the shape as in the super8man picture. Also you could look for an add-on Eumig 3 grip. Nice small thing which has a screw and fits nicely.
