Beaulieu 4008zmII charger

I bought a Beaulieu camera but the battery charger that came with it did not work. I'm assuming because I bought a "new" battery (the one that came with it was leaking) and it never charged. The green light on the charger never went on, so I deduced it was the charger not the battery. I bought another charger off of ebay and had the same problem, although this time I noticed that the green light came on if I inserted it 1/4 of the way in. It seems that the plug is not making a connection.

Is this a common problem?

Is there an easy fix for this so I can charge my battery (still don't know if this camera works until I have a charged battery).
