hmm.... How do you do that, when the camera doesn't have a setting for 500 asa?DonFito wrote:I put the camera into "manuel" and use a hand-held lightmeter. The film speed and fps are dialed into the meter and I set the aperture to whatever the meter tells me.

because you don't use the built in light meter anymore. You set your external light meter to 500 asa and the shutter speed you're shooting at. That's all the meter needs to know to tell you the correct aperture..

LOL yeah, I get that, but the camera needs to know what speed the film is. On a 4008 ZMII you manually adjust the film speed setting, but it only goes up to 400 asa.greg_8mm wrote:because you don't use the built in light meter anymore. The "manuel" setting on the camera's master switch uncouples the Reglomatic auto aperture device on the lens. The camera doesn't need to know what the film speed is as long as the camera operator knows and sets the appropriate lens aperture for the running speed selected (as determined by an external lightmeter).Stephenbyron wrote:. . . the camera needs to know what speed the film is. The original instruction manual for this camera is comprehensive and well-written, explaining the operation of the camera in detail. This might be a reference you'd find valuable.

You should post the footage in this thread when you get it back. IMO, the Beaulieu provides the best Super 8 footage available. I did a short film using a Nizo 4080 (no slouch) and footage shot on the 4008, and the 4008 blew away the Nizo.

I'll post my footage for sure! I can't wait to send it to the lab and have it developed.. I'm planning on having it 'flashscan8ed' so I'll post high quality H264 clips when I have it..
