another very sad day...

Post by tr0x »

...i've bought a cinovid but unfortunately the film pressure pad is missing
I think i've bought another piece of junk.
Is it possible to find a solution, maybe a replacement or something?
I've asked the seller if he can find it somewhere...

I think the Bolex 18-5 is a better unit in every respect...they made to types - one for super 8 and one for regular 8. Talk about a smooooth sewing machine...it just purrs. Even has the extra cord to automatically douse the lights when the unit is turned on. Very rare cord (hahaha). Still, look for one of those...very very gentle on your film too...they made a few different styles (in terms of threading) for the regular 8 model...the bolexcollector fellow has a nice run down of them on his website.

PS - Takes normal, easy to find bulbs and the belts are easily serviced...

I have the 18-5L Super with the 12v 75w "spaceman" bulb... i must find a solution to convert it to more common lamps...

I already have a regular8 18-5 indeed (and i absolutely agree: they are better than the cinovid), but the cinovid would be the perfect companion for my leicinas... and it runs at 24fps too!

I would be :D if anyone can send me some hi-res pics of the cinovid film gate pressure pad, maybe this can help the seller to find the missing part of the projector...

Isn't the "spaceman" bulb 8V 50W? The 18-5 I know also use this lamp... It's an expensive one but still very available.

For some reason I was thinking of the 8v 50W but you are correct, it takes the spaceman bulb:

18-5, Auto, Zoom, Super-8 CXR/CXL

I haven't priced one in a while though...

Two different bulbs were used in the 18-5. They're both the 'spaceman' shape. The early 8v 50w is cheap and common. The later 12v 75w is rare and very expensive. Better check before you buy. A replacement 12v bulb will cost you more than the price of the projector.

I believe the 18-5L super 8 model was the one which requires the rare 75w space lamp. Years ago I was lucky and got an 18-5L on ebay for $20 and it was already converted to use EFN lamps :D
