Re: "Pass The Cart" project, Official Thread
Guys... Suppost the reason I asked everybody to shoot their 10 feet, because I know and I suffered the case. The last 10 feet is for buffer. Not for everybody to share it. It is for waste in purpose.
that's why I said I want to keep it 10 feet and at the very end of the cart, if anyone play by the rules... There should be 10 feet of film which is wasted. I don't mind having some film wasted as long as it is a fair game. Everybody get 10 feet and that's all. You can shoot by 18fps, or 24fps... but only 10 feet. Even the last player should shoot only 10 feet too.
As I can also understand it very very clear because i should say I'm the 1st victim of someone's overrun. I planned and I write a short story and me and my wife took day off from work and drive all the way from north to south and set up the camera and shoot... 2 seconds and it's done.
I'm so aggree to Rick and felt so sorry to him, if he actually set up a story or script. I am sure he will be very very angry and very very disappointed.
So please... all the others shooters of other carts.. please don't overrun your 10 feet. Nobody plan the scripts of 40", 35", 32" or 31"... You only have 10 feet!!!
If I ever set up PTC3, I will have 4 players in a cart and also have 10 feet for buffer... but whoever overrun I will cut out the extra time.

I checked out the Cart 5 preview also. The surfing wipeout is awesome!

Well I'm not exactly stupid, Rick. I went by the counter. It said 10 feet. It was off. I am sorry my counter failed your expectations.Rick Palidwor wrote: Chas only shot 30" (why short?)
I fail to understand how people can be so far off. 10 feet is not hard to understand. Hopefully the other carts won't be so unbalanced.

I don't think Rick was criticizing you for using less than your alloted footage. I'm sure he was just wondering why you didn't take advantage of the whole amount. After all, if you had used your whole ten feet, there wouldn't have been anything left!CHAS wrote:Well I'm not exactly stupid, Rick. I went by the counter. It said 10 feet. It was off. Still, a question: is it wise to rely on footage counters on these old cams? And even if it still "works" and has maintained some reasonable accuracy, they aren't the finest instruments to begin with. I mean its just a needle moving along a tiny counter.

Stating that "10 feet is not hard to understand. Hopefully the other carts won't be so unbalanced" comes across as both pompous and arrogant.
Sorry, didn't have a stopwatch with me.

Re: "Pass The Cart" project, Official Thread
Is that ever a good point. I have ten, three second shots planned for my part. I think Ive got a stop watch around here left over from the studio days. It's been on my mind because LC is on Cart 1 after me and I want to make sure I dont go over after what happened to him last time.etimh wrote:Still, a question: is it wise to rely on footage counters on these old cams? ...Tim

Re: "Pass The Cart" project, Official Thread
My piece is kind of a conceptual self-portrait. I shot mine mostly stop-motion (with a couple of static shots at 9fps) on an 814XLS. It made it quite easy to measure out exactly how much footage I was shooting. I simply kept a tally for each shot, frame-by-frame; each shot (at 24fps) ending up being 1s, 1.5s, 2s, or 5s, respectively. I did, however, go over by a foot or two (knowingly). This is because I needed an extra couple of seconds for my credits slate. I calculated that this would be an acceptable overrun. I also have a Short Straw Films ID and opening title at the beginning (I took a photo; it's a few pages back or something).
Coyote: I'll send you my piece of music when I get to see my processed footage. I'll need to know precisely how long it is so I can edit the piece of music to that exact length.
Ahhh, yess. Summer is outside my door, finally!

There can be no thought of finishing, for "aiming at the stars" both literally and figuratively is a problem to occupy generations, so that no matter how much progress one makes there is always the thrill of just beginning.

Hey cowboy! I'm ready to go hell again...   I just hate to see someone else suffer this again, that's why I suggested to keep 10feet waste.flatwood wrote:It's been on my mind because LC is on Cart 1 after me and I want to make sure I dont go over after what happened to him last time.
brokenflashlight! Yeah I will do the same as Cart 5, upload all the other carts to my youtube so you can preview and get your music done. But you should send the music to flatwood because he will deal with that.brokenflashlight wrote:Coyote: I'll send you my piece of music when I get to see my processed footage. CHAS!... Thanks for being a good boy !!

Hi guys,
I am back after an absence, my father passed away two days ago and he's been at the top of my mind for a month or so...even when I was shooting my PTC footage...I reckon I'd do a better job now but I'd had that cart way too long!
Hopefully Flatwood has recieved it by now, I mailed it over a week ago. Good to know the project is trucking along nicely

I certainly didn't mean it to sound that way. I apologize if anyone took offence. And CHAS you came in under, so I had no complaint about that. Since we know the footage counters are not that reliable this is another reason to build in the buffer at the end.CHAS wrote:Stating that "10 feet is not hard to understand. Angus, so sorry to hear about your dad. You and he have been on my mind this week. Thank you for sending the cart along. I got it a few minutes ago and wanted to let you know. LC, it might take me a week to ten days to get mine shot and in the mail back to you. Ill notify you when I send it so you can start making plans.

Angus, this is devastating news. My condolences. I really hope that we can recover the original carts from the first Pass The cart Project, particularly yours.
