New Demo Reel Coming Soon!
Yeah, I know I've been saying this for ages, but I am finally stable enough financially that I could finally process all the film I shot over the past few months. Spectra contacted me yesterday to tell me that their package is in the mail to me, and Pro8mm just sent theirs out today.
Here's a little of what I should be expecting back:
1-100' 16mm E100D (my first 16mm roll in years with the B&H cam I got off of eBay)
1-50' Pro8/74 (Vision 200T?)
1-50' Pro8/92 (Reala 500D)
1-50' E64T
1-50' Pro8/48 (Vision 100T?)
1-50' Vision2 500T (Kodak)
Some of this was shot with the other eBay cam I got, the Canon AZ814, which I discovered may have a mildew problem with the lens.
Once I get the footage back, I'll be sending it to Justin Lovell's company up in Canada, and once that's back, I'll post the end results on Youtube.
Hopefully I will be posting more regular results, especially considering that there are several high-color events coming up in Chicago (our annual Pride Parade, Taste of Chicago, 4th of July, etc.) as well as a quick weekend trip to L. A. I'll be taking in July.
I'll definitely keep you all updated.

If it does effect it, it'll probably be very slight. The lens just seems to have a slight yellowish-green cast.sk8 wrote:id definitely be interested in the MILDEW footage. Would be nice to see how it affects the picture...

The film more or less went straight from the box to the camera. I think the most time between the film's arrival and me finishing the roll was about 48 hours. After that, it sat in a couple of Priority Mail envelopes until I finally got the chance to send them out.

What site would you suggest? I haven't had any problems with Youtube. Obviously you're not gonna get HD results off of Youtube, but it should give you a general idea. For me, it's all in the encoding.El Jeffe wrote:Youtube!!!!!!!![]()

Still, I'm open to suggestions. I was going to post some of my stuff on Divx's old Stage5 (?) site, but they shut it down before I got the chance. Besides, the Divx encoder didn't handle film grain so well; the end result was full of blocking artifacts.
It'll be nice once HD streaming becomes as commonplace as what Youtube uses is. Then issues like this will be moot. Hell, I'd even be satisfied with being able to post the original DV files in full quality. The original footage looked stunning, almost like lower-end 16mm.

vimeo is another option for uploading your footage...i have seen a few people on this forum upload their footage on vimeo and it is much better than youtube.

Vimeo is great, the difference between it and Youtube is night and day.
Looking forward to seeing the tests.

You should also try "Dailymotion". With their "movie maker" profile you 'll get the full HD with hi-quality compression for all of your videos. (creative contents is awesome).
take a look at this (full screen with yellow HD icon on):

Really looking forward to watching your footage

Re: New Demo Reel Coming Soon!
Well, I got the first part back from Spectra. I wasn't able to check out the Super-8 V2 500T, but I did eyeball the E100D in 16mm, and it told me a few things:
1. My "modified" Sunny 16 role works;
2. The camera works pretty good, eevn if it does sound like an out-of-tune VW Old Beetle trying to do 55 mph, and;
3. I LOVE E100D!
Apart from one sequence that's seriously overexposed (probably from where I thought the camera had jammed but the spring had just run out and the mechanism locks when it does that), and a couple night sequences (which I knew were going to be seriously underexposed), it seems to have come out very well.
Once I get the other four rolls back from Pro8mm, I'm sending them off to Frame Discreet to be transferred.
And thanks to everyone who offered suggestions of video sites other than Youtube. I just signed up with Vimeo today and I got on Dailymotion earlier this week, so they'll both be getting the finished product.

I checked out your video. Very impressive. What camera did you shoot with?

Re: New Demo Reel Coming Soon!
Thanks, for your kind words. I shot it with a Beaulieu 6008 Pro
framed for 1.85:1 Aspect Ratio using vision 2 7217. The telecine was done by Flying Spot in Seattle.
The video was my first attempt shooting with super 8, and I must say, now I am hooked.

I second BlipTV.com as well. Check out the difference on this clip uploaded to BlipTV and YouTube:

Re: New Demo Reel Coming Soon!
Just wanted to post a small update on the project so far.
I got the Pro8mm stuff back today, and I did a cursory look at it. Admittedly I don't have any kind of viewer, but it looks like the color cast and mildew issue I thought my AZ 814 had is either really hard to see or non-existent, because the color on the E64T actually looked pretty good. I did notice that it seemed a little dark, but I suspect that was because I wasn't looking at it through a proper light source. But again, it looks like my "modified" sunny 16 rule worked out fine, and that all three cameras may be coming with me to L. A.
I couldn't really tell with the negative stocks, though, but that's to be expected.
Now all I have to do is send it in to Frame Discreet, which I will be doing at the end of the week.
