I purchased this Canon Regular 8mm camera on eBay. The seller said it was well cared for and was running great. It also has the Canon Wide angle adaper and filters so at $14 I figured I'd try this small camera out. But batteries had been in it probalby for years and were corroded. (So much for being well cared for!) I was able to clean the removable battery pack, and the newly installed fresh batteries show a full charge at the remote/battery checker terminal which is loacted on the back of the camera. I have not replaced the mercury battery (also corroded) for the exposure system. So, the camera says it's powered up, but nothing else works, neither the power zoom, or the motor. (So much for running great!) Does anybody have any suggestions as to how to get some life signs from this, or is it DOA?

Re: Canon EEE Motor Zoom 8 help
just keep on pressing the trigger.
It will (not 100%, but most likely) come back to life.
Many cameras I have were in this condition. The best thing is of course open, clean and lubricate the camera but I understand that's not always easy. Even if it come back to life, it will probably be very noisy...

Re: Canon EEE Motor Zoom 8 help
Besides the good suggestion form "Ultramarine" (I myself succeeded with that trick for powering up my Eumig Mini 3 which I had not used for years), what could help is laying the camera in the sun for a while (without the batteries in it), so that it "loosens up" on the inside and the gears will turn smoother. Not too long though, it doesn't have to be cooked.
But could do wonders...
I hope for the best!

Re: Canon EEE Motor Zoom 8 help
I haven't been able to revive this camera. Also, now I do not get an electrical reading across the battery check/remote terminals on the back of the camera that I did the first day I was checking it. The terminals on the battery pack do still show a full 6 volts. There is electical continuity from the terminals inside the battery compartment to the battery check/remote terminal. I did try putting the camera in the warm sun for an hour, but there was no change. Although the camera otherwise seems to be in excellent condition, I will either return the camera to the seller, or more likely sell the three 34mm filters, and the wide angle converter lens and have done with it unless there is any other advice for getting it going. Too bad. Seems like a nice camera.

I have one, and it works, all but the automatic light meter (manual works). Sorry to hear you're having a problem. They do come up for sail on ebay from time to time and they're never that expensive. Keep the one you have for parts.
If you are going to sell the filters and the wide angle converter, PM me, I'd be interested in buying them.
