New S8 camera

Post by superadio »

Hi folks. Much trouble with old S8 cameras. Much film has been wasted due to failure and malfunctions. Lightmeter, film transport, focusing, you name it. Is there manufactured new cameras?

It might be worth it to get one or two of your cameras serviced. But if you really want a "new" camera you might want to consider a "classic" Pro8mm camera:

i went through that same process: almost-working cameras found at thrifts and estate sales that always broke after a roll or two. frustrating. then i decided to do some research and spend a bit of cash and that did the trick. i'd advise you to scan craigslist etc for higher end cameras and contact the seller to find out if he/she is a s8 enthusiast. if you can find an enthusiast, they will be able to tell you if the camera they are selling is a solid runner. then pay them what they are asking. i got two killer cameras this way and i am able to focus on film making over tinkering with a cruddy piece of equipment.

I second that. Or try super8exchange.com or super8arena.com. They are really reliable sources. I've got a killer 1014XL-S that amazes me. No issues whatsoever.

Be prepared to spend some cash, but like flem said... you can focus on the art not the tools.
