Schneider UWIII converter w/ 6-66mm lens: HOW TO?

Post by jeremybm »

Hello-

As I understand it, to use the UWIII converter on a Beaulieu 4008zm2 w/ schneider 6-66mm, you set the focusing distance to infinity and use the macro lever to focus.......but where should the focal length/zoom be set? I believe the Nizo lenses have a "UWIII" mark indicating the appropriate focal length......anyone know what that might be for the Beaulieu? Any other suggestions you might have for this setup are very welcome. Thanks

Hi, Jeremy.
You are right: on the Nizo's Schneider Variogons there is a dedicated clickstop position on the focal distance ring to be able and use the UWL attachment.

Nonetheless it is possible to use it even on non dedicated lenses, such as the Schneider Optivaron provided it HAS a macro focusing range at the back of the widest normal focal range (I think it is 6 mm). How to accomplish this is rather easy: bring the focussing ring to infinity, and enter the macro field with the zoom ring. At that point look in the viewfinder and adjust the focus by means of just the zoom ring. Focusing doesn't need to be extremely accurate if you can close the iris at least up to f:4, because with this setting youi got plenty of DOF.
Hope this helps.
Bye,
Maurizio
