Super 8 Tracks?

Back in the 70's many respectable scientists believed we should worry about global cooling.
It is far from certain that we are causing global warming, but it is likely. Furthermore if it is human actions, we need to do something about it bloody soon or it could be too late.

The government says that by 2010 30% of us will be fat....I am merely a trendsetter

I remember the global cooling thing in the 70s well - pictures of woolly mammoths roaming London etc.
We were all meant to have moved into space stations by 1990 or so to leave the ice-sheets behind...

Funny, the textbook in my school from 1977 was talking about global warming. The global cooling bit was the study of the sun cycle and tectonic cycle (which was the main barometer for global temperatures) which would have put us within a global cooling cycle. But instead, we are running at almost 20 degrees above the temperature we should be at, which is where the alarm is.

We've just had one of the most brutal winters in decades. It's snowing on the beach at the end of March when spring break is normally in the 60's-70'sF The earth is warming for sure. Unless all of that melting ice is some sort of fantastic illusion. But that it's human caused is a dubioius calim at best. There's just no solid science behind it. It's part of the earth's natural warming/cooling cycle. What human's have caused that can be proved beyond doubt is about 1/10th-2/10th's of a degree F. I think there are far better/legitimate resons to reduce carbon/co2/ etc/ etc/etc outputs. Health/clean air/acid rain, dependance of forign oils of which there's not an unlimited supply. Etc...
Let's get back onto 8 tracks...
I found all of mine in my closet. Virtualy all the Beatles 8 tracks plus some McCartney and a few others. Anyone interested in them?

If you've got McCartney's magnum opus "Pipes of Peace" on 8-track please send it to me. I will burn it ceremoniously to help counteract the pernicious effects of global cooling.James E wrote:Let's get back onto 8 tracks...

*Everyone* knows that it was 'warmer' in the 70s. Look at the colours in all that old Kodachrome...

I distinctly get the feeling that the move to digital video from film for real movies (not low budget stuff) is going to impress upon impressionable youth that the sun's rays are hotter (due to the blow outs of highlights) and that the world really was under the influence of climate change...and who says species going extinct is ABnormal? Who gets to pick and choose which animals are "suffering" from man and his climate interaction? I would like to see the sabertooth tiger bright back from DNA...is that possible? And while were at it, let's bring back K40 and 8-tracks.

Re: Super 8 Tracks?
Too funny - this thread reappears after the great month off. Wow.
Patrick - yes, that would be great. I looked in the freezer and realized I only have 2 K40 sound carts left. I think its finally time to mothball a lot of my super 8 gear in favor of my Scoopic...
And yeah, just spent the morning splicing up some film and listening to ELO on 8 track - very nice.
Cheers,
Mike
