Super 8 In Live Music Venue

Hi,

I'll be shooting a music video next month and I was wondering whether anyone knows how well Super 8 will work in a dark music venue lit only by stage lights?

I assume I'd have to use either 200T or 500T Kodak Vision 2 stock?

Thanks for any help, please excuse any ignorance from my newbieness.

You are absolutley right on the button...I would go for 500T if there will only be stage lights.

I recently tried to capture some B/W footage using Kodak Plus-X with only stage lights ...check it out here...very dark at the beginning...things get slightly better but overall just not enough light...

I used a Canon 1014XL-S with a 220 degree shutter angle and the camera wide open at the lowest F stop...

I wished I'd had some 500T in the fridge that Sunday...

500T looks great with stage lights if properly metered- looks like 1930s technicolour! The sharpness is not lost in the grain even in those conditions. Go for it! (I'd recommend using a camera with an XL shutter though, just to be on the safe side.)

If you're going to be close enough, consider a light on your camera. I shot some plus-x using a 20watt 6Volt Video light and it turned out great. This was also a VERY dark venue. If your going color, then vision 500T is the way to go. I've only used it in 16mm but it has wonderful latitude...

Will be shooting it with a Canon 1014 (not XLS the older one), so hopefully it will work? It better as it turns out the band's label will be paying for the stock and processing costs!!

Use the V2 500T and all will be well.

Unless it's a big, bright megadome stage then anything less than 500T most likely won't come out very well. Plus the 500T can look quite stunning for what it is. I recently watched some S8 500T concert footage I had done at FSFT a while back, on a 37" LCD (SD mode) and a good number of shots appeared almost grainless... and the grain you did see looked farking cool.
