telecine using a 24p camera?

Post by themagickite »

i was just wondering if anyone's tried using something like a canon HV20 in 24p mode filming a 24fps projection?

Stupid question: Is the 24p-mode really 24p or is it in fact only 23.96p?

Tried the Panasonic and an HD cam - both had "phasing" issues, slightly weird motion. Better to use a five-blade shutter on a real-time chain at 29.975, or use a workprinter. Or do it at 20fps real-time and speed it up...that's what I think, anyway...

I tried this a while back with some 16mm and my DVX100.
Came out pretty good. Frame for frame, or so it seemed.

24-0.024=23.976. it's a 0.1% slowdown. no more guessing. :-)

for regular ntsc, fill in the blanks: 30-_=_.

Looks like I forgot a 7 in my number. Anyway: There seem to "24p"-cameras that really run at 24fps while some/most other "24p"-cams only seem to run at the NTSC-nearly-24fps-speed of 23.976fps.

Looks like that camera has even got a "24pA"-mode: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/24p#Advanced_pulldown . How strange!

Yes. it was the advanced pulldown cadence I was shooting in during the transfer. 24pA allows you to work in 24fps and export 24P also.
