Expired SOUND film available

Post by Cranium »

A local guy has a bunch, but it's REALLY expired. Any market for this stuff? It's been cool and "dry", but I don't think frozen.
Any thoughts?

By "Dry" I mean, not flood soaked like the almost 30 rolls of this stuff I had in a freezer at my parents' house while I lived in the UK. They pitched it! "The boxes were all soggy..."

Hey, I'll buy some, if not all of it, depending on the price. I've got a black and white talking head project and that would work out just fine. All my footage is suppose to be archival from the 50s and 60s, so that would be just perfect, even with flaws. Plus, the fact that it's sound film means NO JITTER GUARANTEED!

Is it K40 or E160? How much per roll? How many rolls does he have?

Expired Sound Film

I think the main concern is...Kodak just does not make sound striped film anymore. As us pro DJ's used to say it is like an out of print piece of vinyl and CD's will never replace that kind of classic recording. My experience has been when you look at the colors (especially Ektachrome 160) it's a crap shoot on how clear they come out. Especially if the stock was not stored properly...i.e. in the freezer. However as Movie stuff notes, if colors are NOT your concern, expired sound film is very valuable only because you can't buy it anymore and it allows you to add sync footage to your project for less than other methods in most cases.

Let's see if I can get this out before I crash again...

10 rolls out of box, but in sealed foil. Don't know type or date.
2 rolls E160, 1989
3 rolls E160, 1979(!)
2 open box (but sealed foil) K40, 1988

There's also 15 K40 silent, 1981 "I've got some early '80s Kodachrome. You could mess with the emulsion..." or something like that.

6 E160s from '92.

And some others I wouldn't mess with...

Sound Films??

Hi,

I have 4 E160A rolls from 11/1997 sealed, well stocked. Great condition.
If somebody make a "very good" offer I can sell them. :D

Regards,
