16mm music video online

Post by Justin Lovell »

Shot in Montreal.
16mm 100D ektachrome and 7218 (500t v2)

2 reg 16mm Bolex cameras used, one seemed to have some kind of streaking on highlights, probably a shutter problem. The director liked it though, he wanted a vintage documentary 70s feel.
18-86 zoom used (which is for sale, if you want it).

(if anyone knows how to doing coding so the video doesn't play automatically, please let me know!)

thanks,

Hi Justin,

keep up the good work, some really evocative images there. Only question is what F stop were you (or he) working with with the indoor scenes and the 500T? , or how wide open was wide open!

The simple solution is to add - autoplay="false" - to your <embed> tag. i.e. <EMBED SRC="http://whatever.com/movies/my_movie.mov" width="480" height="222" autoplay="false">

A fancier solution is to export a frame grab from the movie to be your "poster" movie, "poster_movie.mov", and use this code:
<embed src="http://www.whatever.com/movies/my_movie_poster.mov" width="480" height="222" autoplay="true" controller="true" loop="false" href="http://whatever.com/movies/my_movie.mov" target="myself"></embed>

I'm pretty sure that should work. If it doesn't the simple solution works for sure. :)

Had a F-0.9 50mm lens, and 1.6/1.9 switar primes.

Thanks Guys, (and I'll try that new coding).. Got the simple solution to work for now :D

It doesn't look much like Madrid - though it's refreshing to hear music that hasn't had the life scrunched out of it. The man with the pills (one 'l') could pass for Jim Morrison, from a distance, for a spoof video. The film's well cut and the blowout to red, in the middle, is nicely chosen.

I loved your music vid, loved the music too! I think I've watched it over 10 times now! Like the opening scene.. Like the ultra wide aspect ratio..

Btw, how did you frame for that? Did you know you were gonna use this aspect ratio? Is it super16mm with the top and bottom cut off in post?

It was originally intended for 4:3 output, but I guess somewhere down the line someone tried the wider ratio and fell in love with it.

Great choice on their part for all the wide landscape shots.
