Anyone Shot Vision 3 500T in Super-8 Yet?
I'm looking to get some from Pro8mm in a couple weeks when the tax return comes in, and I was wondering if anyone's shot any of this yet--in either Super-8 or 16mm.
For some bizarre reason, even though they announced that it was available immediately in November, it still hasn't made it onto the online store. If it hasn't made it there by the time I order the rest of my film, I'll get it in 16mm, since my local camera store has it in 100 ft. rolls. I still don't have an #85 filter yet for the camera, but I'll just correct it in the transfer.

Just got off the phone with Kodak Norway. Still april here and the next one that's up is 250D, not in Super8 though.
Cheers,

They [Pro8mm] have it in stock. It's just not on their online store. I thought they would have fixed that by now. I called them and ordered it over the phone. I have a small sample clip on my blog hereeven though they announced that it was available immediately in November, it still hasn't made it onto the online store.

I'd suggest having someone else process it... either Spectra or Alphacine maybe.Mafishus wrote:They [Pro8mm] have it in stock. It's just not on their online store.
I've had simply awful results when they process it but decent results with other companies. Don't know why, and it sucks that you can't buy it from them without processing, but that's been my experience.
Spectra will process it for free if they transfer it.

Very nice, even with the focus being off. It still gave me an idea of what to expect from it.Mafishus wrote:They [Pro8mm] have it in stock. It's just not on their online store. BTW, was the filter notch taken out of it? I had a nasty experience recently with some Kodak-made Vision2 500T. I found out that it didn't disengage the #85 filter on my camera--only after I shot the entire roll with the #85B filter I used for E64T on the front!

I'm pretty sure that the most reliable info as to whether/if/when VISION3 will be released in Super 8 would be from Kodak in the USA.
I'm on the wrong side of the pond to ask - any American members out there with contacts at Kodak up for making the call? It's a certainty anyway that it will be released first there, then rolled out into the other territories.
Kodak Norway saying April and Kodak UK saying "in about a month" (e.g. early March) is at least broadly consistent I suppose.

A Canon 814 Auto Zoom. The cartridge itself didn't have the filter notch in it, so when I put in the cartridge, the camera automatically inserted the filter into the film path, so I ended up double filtering my film.adamgarner wrote:cubdukat: what kind of cameradid you use that didn't recognize the notches?
The same thing happened with the Pro8 Reala 500D I shot, except that time I had the #85B unscrewed. But I talked to someone at Pro8mm in December, and they said that because of the Pro814's revised metering system, all their cartridges from V3 on will be properly notched. Now, whether they meant "properly notched to work with the Pro814's metering system" or "properly notched, period," or whether any of the old stock will be re-notched, I don't know.
As it turns out, though, the 814 might have something else wrong with it. The view through the viewfinder isn't as clear as it should be, and I'm sure there's fungus in there somewhere. The only thing is, until I get the footage back (which I will real soon), I don't know whether it's the viewfinder that's got it or the lens proper.

When the pin is pushed in (by a notchless cart) the 85 filter is disengaged, not the other way round. Could it be possible that your footage looks too warm to your eyes because of the time of day that you shot it at rather than being due to 'double filtering'? An 85 type filter is not necessarily always appropriate if it's sunset or late in the day, as it can warm things up too much.cubdukat wrote:A Canon 814 Auto Zoom. Really? I guess I got it mixed up. I'll see when I get the footage back.Blue Audio Visual wrote:When the pin is pushed in (by a notchless cart) the 85 filter is disengaged, not the other way round. Worst case scenario would be that when I send it off to Frame Discreet, they'll have to correct it more heavily.
I tend to like the warmer look as well, just so long as the flesh tones don't look like a third-degree sunburn. Sadly, this being winter in Chicago, there isn't a whole lot to shoot that would lend itself to warm color. That's why my next batch of Super-8 and 16mm is going to be in B&W.

Since there's no ASA 500 speed notch, not sure what they mean either, unless they are tweaking their 814's a little above or below the only nearby speed indices for the VISION stocks. All of them are a little off the traditional Super 8 speed indices.cubdukat wrote: But I talked to someone at Pro8mm in December, and they said that because of the Pro814's revised metering system, all their cartridges from V3 on will be properly notched. If you look at the table, the closest thing in the SMPTE standard would be speed-notching the 500 at ASA 640T, and then making the cartridge notchless to bring it down to ASA 400-- a little overexposed. Or just notching it at ASA 400 straight, with a notched cartridge. But it's still off a little-- about 1/5 stop overexposed.
