Hmm.Interesting idea.I would like to see a camera like the Beaulieu MR8 converted to ultra 8.Think of the advantages.Real pressure plate, interchangeable lenses, full choice of film stocks that are available in 16mm (there are places that can reperf the stock, I understand).
Now all you need is a transfer facility that can handle it.I would be more apt to look at something like that as opposed to super duper 8 or Max 8.Sounds like a plan.Anyone interested in pursuing this, PM me.

We use a Sankyo Blahbbity Blah Dual 8 projector for reg 8mm transfers, and the image is all already there. I pulled the mask that cropped for S8/R8, and this had the effect of revealing the whole frame, edge to edge and horizontal frame lines. If the customer requested it, we could letterbox the image and presto! Ultra 8 is a done deal.jaxshooter wrote:Hmm.Interesting idea.I would like to see a camera like the Beaulieu MR8 converted to ultra 8.Think of the advantages.Real pressure plate, interchangeable lenses, full choice of film stocks that are available in 16mm (there are places that can reperf the stock, I understand).

Same VF issues as SD8, but that never stopped anyone...

Ruedi Muster of Ruedi Muster Film & Fernsehtechnik, 2545 Selzach, Switzerland, Tel. ++41 (0)32 641 10 46, is a strong advocate of the DS8 Breitwand format. He provides repair services for all types of small format cine cameras and projectors and is probably the constructor of the camera and projector described.

The most famous R-8mm of all time = the Zapruder film of the JFK assassination has the extra image between the sprockets. He used a B+H 414PD zoom camera which was really a pretty neat camera. The only drawback (for me) with this camera is that it does not film at 24fps. All copies of this camera expose the area between the sprocket holes and the zoom lens covers it rather nicely. I suppose any R-8mm camera with a zoom lens could have the gate widened to capture images between the sprockets. I wonder if there would be any problems in replacing the "D" mount turret on a Bolex H-8 with a "C" mount turret from an H-16 so you could use "C" mount lenses and which would cover the additional area... Being able to transfer the film with the widescreen images would be easy to accomplish.

What do you mean by the DS8 "Breitwand" format? Am I missing a German reference?

I am acquintated with mr van der Does of http://www.de-snek.nl.
He did the construction/rebuild of the mentioned set.
Apparently there are more people who can do it.
DS8 widescreen implies that the film will not be split after processing and the full width is exposed in one frame. I suppose it is between the sprocketholes and not onto the material under and above the holes.
Would have to ask.
Kind regards,
André
