Actually, CineCap works flawlessly with the Matrox codec. We used it all the time with the Sniper units and routinely processed 400 foot reels with no problem. There are some settings that you have to do on your computer, though, for things to work with Matrox properly. Contact me offlist and I'll help you sort it out.

Count me in the Adobe Premiere camp. Im using 2.0 on a dual core 2meg PC running XP. I also have an older Dell with a DC30+ card in it running Premiere 6.5. I do (or did) hi 8 editing on the Dell. In addition to Premiere, I also have After Effects, Mercalli deshaker and shaker plug ins and Magic Bullet Editors installed.

I started out with the IBM PC platform in the 80s but I think if I had it to do again, I think Id go with the Mac for audio and video but Im happy now with how it all works.

Me too! After fighting with 1.0 for years, it is a real joy.

Is anyone using a Linux system? I would love to be able to use Premiere on a Linux box if they only made a version...

Former Premiere 6.02 user, now using Grass Valley Edius with NX hardware. Works flawlessly with CineCap/WorkPrinter for frame capture using all proprietary codecs. Very easy for me to learn (about 10 minutes to figure it out, and be productive doing just about everything I used to do, and more, in Premiere.)

Very powerful and intuitive software with great hardware....

I will begin experimenting with HDV capture in the future, and let you know...

Hey man, I'm using fcp 6. I havent used anything free-ware so I cannot compare but I love it.

FCP offers great HD workflow, so in the world of 8mm it keeps all the scratch and grain of telecined materials nicely. Its fast, too, if you work on a Mac Pro. If you're getting footage telecined in LA to HD uncompressed I understand that the compression to ProRes is amazing and will be nearly undetectable (like at Pro8mm).

The export to Quicktime HD H.264 compresses with all the texture too. I love that. Hope it helps.

Sony Vegas 8

I'm a real newbie using NLEs. I am slowly finding my way around Sony Vegas. It is like eating an elephant.

The new Pro Titler seems to be an awesome new feature.

Hello, I've been using Avid since 1994. As an editor avid became a part of my body, clicking buttons with my eyes closed, performing a cut with out thinking what I should do to do it right. In the past I've tried to learn how to use final cut but for me was a deadend because avid software now runs into my system. BUT forget me and what I said, young people come to me and ask my opinion what should they use for editing, and my answer is learn final cut. Is cheaper it does more things than Avid and slowly slowly studios in Europe prefer final cut. Thanks for your time!
