anamophic attachment + nizo 6080 ?

Post by nico »

Hi there !

Since 1 year I'm looking for an anamophic attachment to my braun-nizo 6080 but I never had any results on my search attempts.

Maybe the lense is too large to use an attachement? Its diameter is about 67mm...mmh...my Kowa 16-s isn't working.
Has anybody filmed anamorphic with the nizo? Is there an anamorphic attachement out there (somewhere) with none or low vignetting which can be used with the nizo lens?

nico

Does anybody want my KOWA S-16 anamophic ? It's in mint condition, no scratches etc.

I use an Iscorama 54 A-lens with my 6080 and even with its rear glass size of 58mm I can only use about half the zoom range before vignetting.

The KOWA 16 has a rear glass size of 49mm, which means a fairly steep step up to the 6080's 67mm. It's really only suitable for cameras with a filter ring size of 52mm or less.

Having said that, what are you asking for the Kowa - I'm looking for a lens that size for my baby Quarz.

I'm asking 85 $ (~90 EURO) for the kowa 16-s (+international shipping).

Hi Nico,
once I've tried to use an anamorphic attachment in front of my 6080.
I bought a french enormous anamorphic projection lens from eBay, which was surely meant for 35mm theatrical projections.
Anyway it was so long that it caused hard vignetting, and so heavy that I would have had to build a very solid custom bracket to hold it in front of my camera.
In a few words:too complications!

Last April I was in London, and, of course, I visited the Widescreen Centre: they showed me the famous (and expensive) Iscorama 54, assuring me that it would have fitted my camera's lens.
Now I read that it wouldn't...

Still, I'd love to have some 'anamorped' film de-squeezed during the video-transfer process, but I fear it can't be done, so...

Good luck,
Giovanni

Yes, it can. The redoubtable Premiere editing software is able to unsqueeze at 16.9 ratio. If you shot at 2:1 or more, you'll lose a bit of width, but it can be done.

Thanks anyway,

If there's no anamorphic attachment available today (one which will fit the Nizo 6080 lens), what's the way to go ??
Another alternative would be shooting in 4:3 aspect ratio an to crop the image to fit the 1,66:1 (16:9)-ratio or even the 2,35:1 ratio. But this means loosing about 25% (16:9) - 50% (2,35) of image size. This procedure would also make the camerawork more complicated....framing the image without any indications in the viewfinder...
I'm going to shoot a super8 shortfilm using the Vision2ooT stock. Hopefully we'll do a Rank Cintel telecine to DigiBeta and finish the project on video.
My camera operator likes to work at telephoto range because of the depth of field so it'll be difficult to correctly frame the image.
Any suggestions? Can one exchange the viewfinder's ground glass of the Nizo 6080 to another with (16:9, 2,35) marks/helplines??
Any experiences with the the Vision 200T stock? I always heard it's to grainy but personally I don't like the look of Kodachrome40. It always has a 60-70ies look (in my eyes). That is why I prefer negative stock. Pro8mm offers are still too expensive for me.
Does the braun-nizo 6080 support the 200t notched carts? Or is it preferable to use an extra lightmeter? If so, what changes have to be made (what is important?) because the manual claims that the interior lightmeter is the way to go (it's more exactly than any other). I am a little bit confused.

ps: If somebody has already shot Kodak vision200t (8mm) and/or has some pictures online, please let me know or drop me an e-mail: toledo@europostal.de

pss: kowa anamophic attachment still available!

other anamorphic possibility

You could get a matte box for the 6080 and either buy or make a matte to the desired dimensions.

I had that in mind too.
But the problem is that when I focus an object which is far away from the lens (in telephoto range) the matte box becomes unsharp.
And I would like to keep the full image to make extra framing adjustments in postproduction, if necessary.
But perhaps I take this possibility into consideration.
