1.2v AA Rechargeables

Post by RichardB »

I've got a Canon 814XL-S coming in the post this week, will these batteries be okay for use in it? I believe they're of the Ni-Cd variety, and they've been working okay (I think!) so far in my Cosina XL-204.

I've been using 1.2v nimh's with my 1014XL-S for about a year now without any visible problem.

They seem to last longer than standard alkalines, although the battery check meter never goes right to the end, it stays in the blue zone for a long time.

yes Richard but even better still buy Eneloop Nimh batts... they hold charge for up to a year just sitting on the shelf minding their own business. Handy for those days when you see the perfect shot but then oh... if only my batteries were charged, damn it!!

Hello !

I think, that at use 1.2V instead of 1.5V battery check can show incorrect information.

i haven't tried them in my 814e but i do know that it needs fresh batteries to maintain the correct speed. 24 fps becomes 22 long before the battery meter complains, especially with 64t since it seems like it requires more torque from the motor. the voltage of alkali cells under load is never 1.5v though. it drops fast, so maybe 1.2v is more than enough.

Happens the same to mine. I just change them every 3 carts. Probably should give a go the those rechargeable and see how they work.

Cheers,

Morales.

Why is that so?

it requires more torque because it's thicker i guess, or the lubricant is different? actually i don't know, but i do know i had much less of this problem with kodachrome.

the 814e is electronically controlled, so it holds speed extremely steadily as long as the voltage is sufficient, i.e. it doesn't increase the speed if i give it more, so i'm thinking of building a separate battery pack with the correct voltage but much more punch, but first i'm gonna try rechargeables.
