Would you considering posting a sample such we could get a glimpse of your shutterless efforts?
.... I've shot with it shutterless once before with VNF, look great. I pick up my 500T from NCL in a couple of days. Should be interesting.

I don't plan on having my stuff telecined for a month or so. I'll have to do a home transfer, and with the 500T I won't get the proper color during inversion. I'll give it a try anyway.freedom4kids wrote:Would you considering posting a sample such we could get a glimpse of your shutterless efforts?

Will do, Dave.
I suspect there a sizable lot of Super 8 filmmakers in Parkdale itself..let alone in TO and the GTA.
Did you happen to catch my Nuit Blanche short at Cafe Taste? Which may very well end up as ground zero for the potential collective...the owners are very enthusiastic supporters.

Dave

I've been in Taste when they were screening other stuff. Seems like a good venue -- and if it's accessible, then maybe it can fill the void of what CAMERA should have been.

Yea.
It was hard to catch everything and anything actually. The Parkdale BIA tried their best but their one paid employee claimed to blanket the hood with posters requesting film/video submissions for NB but as you can probably attest...I never saw such a beast.
And at the top level the ScotiaBank NB website and/or programme failed to mention that NB extended right into Parkdale...hence we suspect the drop in Pedestrian traffic right at the Dufferin gates later on in the evening.
It was only through a conversation with the owner of Cafe Taste that I had even found out about it...and surprise, surprise..they never received any official submissions from neighbourhood artists at all!
So I promised some rather quick intense turnaround w/ me utilizing some first time digital editing work and viola a a short film was born...45 minutes late for the 7:05pm start!
But it went well and I had some interesting comments.
I am curious about your comments regarding the Atom Egoyans' Camera Bar.

Wow -- I can't believe they had no submissions. I definitely would have proposed/submitted something had I known.
As far as Camera... it just isn't feasible for an independent filmmaker. Rental price starts at $700/night for a 95 seat venue. That doesn't make any sense -- it's in the same ballpark as real cinemas with 500+ seating. I know they offer something a little different with the bar. But the bar isn't what's needed by the film community, it's the screening space.
As far as Camera-programmed films... it seems to be just the personal interests of Hussain, Atom and the Bulger. Check the programming calendar on their website... the Camera sits empty most nights. They seem to book more weddings than films.
Best venue in town is the Brunswick Theatre. Truly accessible, reasonable rentals, they will do straight fourwalls or revenue splits on films they believe in. Unfortunately they don't have deep pockets for decor and renovations.

That's good info regarding the screening room at Brunswick house. What is the aspect ratio? 4:3? 16:9?
Could they show 2:66 Super 8 scope films?
Yea...I spoke to Atom E once over a year hanging out at the Camera..classy place but not really conducive to Super 8 filmmakers. It is such a tiny screen.
And does the now Big Time Mr. Hollywood Director Atom E. really want to cultivate hungry dynamic filmmakers from the hood?
I suspect not.
The Canadian film scene is actually very small and very incestuous. From the now occasional 35mm productions to the snotty Queen West film/video installation crowd from the 70's and 80's...they all need a good kick in their complacent filmic butts...
...let it rip I say.
