Any News on Spectra's E100D?

Post by cubdukat »

Just wondering if anyone had heard anything new about it. It seems like that "Coming Soon" sign has been up all year for this stuff. I'm looking to shoot more of it when the leaves start turning color, and I'd really like to avoid dealing with Pro8 wherever possible.

Not to hijack this thread but I have a quick question.
I am thinking about purchasing a roll of Ektachrome 100D to try out in my Minolta Autopak 8 D-6, to see if it works. Would I be able to just purchase a roll from them and then have the film processed by Spectra's and sent back with out telecining it ? I only project so telecine is not needed in this case.
Thanks

i'm more interested in the 50D. What's up with that? Seems like it's off the map.

With the 100D, Spectra is using fresh kodak perfed stock. I was able to shoot and process some preproduction carts and the results were amazing. Rich colors and density... It looks virtually the same as S8 Velvia, but with much better registration.

100d looks similar to 50d on close up work, 100d simply lacks the resolving power of 50d. Try taking long establishing shot with 100d and compare the same scene with 50d, you'll see what i mean.

That's what I'm talikin bout!

There isn't enough of a difference between 64T & 100D to justify the expense for me. 50D is in a class of its own.

Perhaps that is why Kodak decided not to release 100D in S8. The difference between 64T and 100D is not great enough to warrant the effort to release 100D in S8.

From what I've shot the 100D is far better than 64t
Just my opinion.

Are you saying Velvia 50D or Vision2 50D? Vision2 50D is amazing on a bright day.

I have plenty of both to compare with each other, and it's like comparing gravel and sand. As long as 100D is available in S8 somehow, somewhere, I won't be shooting any 64T.

i find it hard to compare over the net, the 64t stuff looked pretty good, i quite like the results i've had with 64t so far, don't see why everyone hates it, bit grainy but man the colours, having said that though, i haven't shot any 100d yet, got 5 carts waiting patiently in my freezer.

is there a difference in quality between spectra a pro8mm in regards to 100D?
and if kodak made it themselves would there be another step in quality?

I have to agree with this too. I don't mind 64t. I have shot tones of it and tones of 100d. Now I really only shoot 100d. Its just must finer than the 64t. But in a tungsten lighting situation, yes, 64t is in its element.

No (IMHO). In super 8 I shoot Pro8mm 100d and in DS8 I shoot Kodak 100d. Same results.
