Let the games begin:
The core concept of Hansen's testimony is that the earth "is close to dangerous climate change, to tipping points of the system with the potential for irreversible deleterious effects." However, this contention, like the many other claims Hansen makes, is neither a self-evident verity nor a proven fact. It is merely an opinion. And to raise it to a loftier status requires that there be real-world evidence for the changes the climate models suggest should occur in response to increasing atmospheric CO2 concentrations and rising air temperatures.
And that my folks, is the state of the union as we know it today. Your opinion may vary but the facts remain the same.

Reasons I didn't buy a Single-8 camera in 1977 include:
- Cameras being sold in the store only filmed at 18fps ( I shoot at 24fps)
- Only two film stocks available
- More expensive than S-8mm
- Greatly limited developing choices (could only send to Fuji)
- Much ballyhooed ability to backwind entire roll not something I needed
- Let's face it, the standard Single-8 camera to me is not as pleasing to the eye as S-8mm cameras due to the vertical shape.
Back then the S-8mm cartridges produced sharp and steady images, so the pressure plate in Single-8 (I do admire that) was not such a big issue. When you read so many posts here about wishing for more and different film stocks to be available in S-8mm, Single 8 has even far fewer choices to this day. Great design, but how much better in practical terms? Of course, don't pay any attention to me, I still prefer roll film. 8)

All valid points David.
I am cheap so I film at 18fps. I only use one stock AT A TIME (joke).
Not really more expensive anymore...about the same really.
With Kodachrome there was really only one or two labs in the world...in 1997, not 1977...
I like the tall slim look so I can see past it with my "good" eye.
But of course, we should quit our jobs and hobbies and stay at home since only life sustaining activities are now allowed in our new politically correct world and these trite activities contribute to anthropogenic CO2 in the atmosphere.

So we're supposed to believe an Exxon funded 'critique' instead? Hahahaha. You Americans and your sense of humour. Nice.super8man wrote:Let the games begin:

That's nothing. I'm even more of a cheapskate. I bought a 4008 so I could film super cheap. At 2fps. For thirty minutes. Straight.schoft wrote:hahahahahahahasuper8man wrote: I am cheap so I film at 18fps.

Here's an idea...
We all meet up at the burning barge. Grease up with some crude oil and seal blubber and then have a cage match until the death!!!
Maybe we can enlist a few Makah indians to shoot a whales or three too. Then we can have a durn good time.
What was this thread all about anyway???
Reflex, when are we meeting with the guns and beer??
Good Luck

Good point. Also, god knows what kind of toxic processes are involved in the manucfacture of video cassettes or DVD's... and the hundreds of times more that they are employed for amateur recording compared to smail gauge film.aj wrote: Older springwound cameras have an edge while these use no batteries for filmtransport.

This is all true..... But:Reflex wrote:All of the Super 8 film ever made still exists (unless it was burnt) because it isn't biodegradable. It requires a toxic soup of chemicals for manufacture and a second batch of noxious slime to process.
On the long run, everything is biodegradable.
Or should I say 'molecular'degradable? Or even 'atomic'degradable?
I mean.. it will fall apart...
In the mean time, we must indeed do our best for the environtment.
But not to fanatic

Fred.

Mike,
I saw your short called, "Flowers in Mum's garden". I think that Regular8 might be the best of the 8's with that 100D and R8 image steadiness! Anyway, I thought that it looked beautiful! Could you show us more examples of R8 100D with different subjects like with people and landscapes, etc.? I would love to see how 100D looks in R8 under different shooting conditions!
