I've just uploaded a test film. Compression has reduced quality but I have to say that this little camera worked surprisingly well. I used ND filter and edited in camera. Filmed at 24fps. ( Although I suspect it was slightly faster - these cameras can be unreliable.)

See:

The music was obviously added later but seemed appropriate.

That's a nice little character study of the area... My hat's off to your views of Sunny England!

Very nice indeed. Does the stock and the camera proud. Can I have your blessing to put it on my Zenit Quarz blog?

Shot some 64t on Sunday with my Quarz 1 x 8S-2 which is also a 90's model.
I going to develop it on Saturday with a lomo sprial.
Mine was shot at 24fps too mainly around Camdon hope to turns out ok, as I've never used it before (and I've owned it 2yrs! )

I thought I would shoot a test so I can use it as a back up for my Nizo 561 for some stuff I'm doing later this month.

I'll post a clip when it's done.

I just used some 1.5v batts. The light meter on mine seems fine compared to my external meter. But the needle in the finder move up by 2/3 of a stop when the triggers pulled then returns back after 1-2secs.

Thanks, Gianni. It was a perfect hot day ( one of very few this summer in England!). It was quite funny, as I walked past the tea shop carrying my Quarz, I heard an old woman with a child say, "Oh look - grandpa used to have an old camera like that!".

Yes, Mucky, of course you can use it - I am grateful to your blog for helping me set the correct filter! :-)

Great atmosphere - the first half reminds me of The Wicker Man before the pagan rituals start! :D

Ian, thanks. Glad you appreciated the atmosphere. Filmaking is only an interest of mine, I am a painter, ( my avatar is one of my pics). I own two Quarz cameras - I like their ruggedness and lens quality although they are not as reliable as my Bolex 160. BTW, I really liked the Gamine page - your music would go well with a movie.

Thanks - we've had a few enquiries, maybe one of these days it'll happen! In any case, we've decided to make our own... a couple of Super 8 films for a couple of our new songs, which I'll put links up for when they're nearer finished.

I've got a Quarz 5 8mm myself that I haven't had the chance to use yet - really looking forward to having a go, but it'll have to wait as we're planning another Super 8 first...

cheers

The Quarz 5 isn't as versatile/good as the Quarz super 8. You'll probably have to use an external lightmeter too. I also have a Quarz DS8-3 ( Double Super 8 ) which is an improved version of the Quarz 5 but I have yet to run a film through it. (For Standard 8 you can not beat a serviced Bolex! I collect the rarer models).

BTW, I sent you a PM re your site.

Yes, the light meter is dead, but I got this groovy old Weston Cine light meter on ebay that seems to work, so I'll have to learn to use that...

I only picked up the Quarz (a 99p ebay bargain) when I accidentally bought some Kodachrome 25 8mm films (yep, ebay again), so I'll be happy to get any kind of result. :)

cheers

Hi to all!

Here's an example of anamorphic E64T with the Quarz. Is the same camera from Muckymuck's blog:

Morales, that's fascinating - I wonder what other lenses can be successfully used?

Was it necessary to remove the internal lens element inside the Quarz body so that your anamorphic lens would work?

Hey, Dsam, thanks for your comments. I guess you can almost use any a-lens with the quarz. I use a couple of step up rings, c-mount to series V, series V to VI and VI to VII. I wasn't able to get the V to VII, still, it works great! Mine is a Kowa 2x for B&H but I would like to get a 1.5x or 1.33x. The a-lens is complementary to the prime, so you don't have to remove nothing but the complementary zoom and enjoy!
By the way, I want to publicly thank RCBasher for his inspiration and personal help with DIY telecine.

Best regards,

Morales.
