Did anyone film the lunar eclipse?

Post by Scotness »

Did anyone film the lunar eclipse of a few nights ago - it wouldn't have been visible to the Europeans though

We got a bit of a cloudy night where I am - but still had a pretty good look - and it was quite impressive. I tried with my digital still but didn't get much of a good image.

Would have been nice to try on film - but I'm taking a break for financial reasons! I've just put my Leicina Special on eBay - probably by the time another eclipse comes around I'll have enough money to afford another one!

Here's a groovy time lapse image taken by someone in Canberra:

I filmed the one visible from the UK a few months ago....but I have to say that digital video worked better due to greater sensitivity to light. I was trying with an XL camera and 64T, had I used 200T or 500T I suspect super 8 would have worked OK.

I took these shots of the moon from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina recently with a D200 time exposure. I set it to do time exposed shots in time lapse. Strung them together in After Effects for a very interesting HD time lapse of the moon rising.

Too bad we can't do long exposures on super 8 or 16mm and time lapse them... or can we?

Yes we can! Provided you have the right model Nizo, Bauer or a modified shutterless Nikon Super Zoom 8.

Though it's recommended not to have too long of an exposure when shooting the moon otherwise it will turn out blurred.

The "silver Nizo" range can do long exposures, but I didn't have one when we had the eclipse here.

At least I don't think I had it, otherwise I don't know why I would have used something else!

I took some stills on my digital camera here in Sydney. There wasn't a cloud in the sky. It was perfect. I'll upload some if I remember next week at work.

Yes you can do time lapse with auto "bulb" exposure for each frame -- Bauer C Royal cameras can. I'm just now experimenting with my 10e Makro. Great camera that can be found cheap if you search!
