hey dudes
i just recently got my grubby hands on a licina special (after looking out for one for many a year)
not got any film back yet but i have high hopes.
with the camera i got one of those nifty st1 time-lapse units.
I picked up a manual from old timer cameras, but it had no info on the st1.
does anyone have the manual for this unit and its uses?
also
looking trough the manual, the various add-ons for the special blew my mind!
has anyone ever seen or tried the night vision option or the microscope thingy?
night vision on super 8,
just the thought of it makes my brain hurt, and its a nice pain.
and one more question,
has anyone got 16.9 action going with the special, and with what lens?
thanks
bob

hello,
i have had my eye on the special for a few months now ... have any of you heard of the faster fps model that is 90-130fps? also, could you tell me a bit about the camera in terms of construction/design and usability? how is the lower viewfinder in terms of usablity? is it a better made camera then the 4008zmIV? what kind of shutter system does it have and is it good in low light?
regarding the automattic lap dissolve ... i understand some earlier models closed down the lens apature, not the sector shutter, which then makes the viewfinder dark. does anyne know what years/serial numbers this problem was fixed/addressed? the fix came as a device called the 'leicinamatic' which also drives the zoom motor. do any of you have this model/camera? if so, preach me your praise ... i find the camera really interesting because it can accept bayonet mount or c-mount lenses, which is a real plus in my book, as i have come to the conclusion it is good to have a set of lenses you use for all your cameras, as you get to know them over time imho.
thanks

I have heard of a faster fps model but never seen one. The viewfinder position works fine for me and you can get a right angle finder attachment, I like the interchangeable focussing screens although I do get odd shots out of focus but I think this is due to suffering from "floaters" which are fuzzy bits in the eye that float about, a damn nuisance!
Regarding the lap dissolve, the camera rewinds the film for you and the leicinamatic automatically closes the iris. On other lenses you have to do this manually, whatever lens you use the viewfinder goes dark.
I don't think c mount lenses can be fitted. I have a Leica R to M convertor and then use Tamron lenses with the R adaptall mount as this is a much cheaper option than Leica M mount lenses.
The biggest worry is if something goes wrong and having to find somewhere that can fix them.
