On a Mitchell 35mm cine camera we used sew machine oil, but you would ideally look for the best and finest oil available.

If you feel tempted, it's not recomended to use WD-40

Sewing machine oil is what I've always heard -- name brand MIGHT be superior to 3 in one oil.

I've had a bottle of Kodak brand oil for years. The label says: "Special Oil" it doesn't say special for what, so it just sits there.

Definitely do not use 3-in-one, or WD-40. If in doubt, just go to a watch shop and ask them what they use. Sewing machine is really good enough.

WD-40 may unstick locked cogs and the like, but will not lube your camera very well.

It's just too thin. I will be ok for 50ft of film but will need re lubing with something more substantial very quickly.

Do not just fire wd-40 right from the can into the camera as you will almost definitely apply too much and get it all over the inside of the camera. If you are needing it to unstick something squirt it into the lid of the WD-40 and apply it to the camera parts you are needing to unstick with a small screw driver (it find it best to apply the sewing machine oil this way too).

Good luck!
Chris.
