Hi
I'm thinking to shoot a short film in super 16 and then blow up to 35mm.
anyone knows a good and cheap lab in europe to do the blow up?
thanks and good summer for the europens!

the cheapest is probably to shop around. negative cutting is probably cheaper in one place, blow-ups in another, sound neg, release prints and so on in yet some other place. then again it's easier to negotiate a discount if you do it all in one place. nordisk film post production in stockholm is fairly cheap for the blow up, but their negative cutting is expensive. for example.

the actual blowup is about the same once you factor in the negative cutting and a/b rolling, but optical timing is still much much cheaper than a digital grade. plus you can scan the interneg to video for peanuts, since it's already timed, so you also save on the fine scanning of the neg, just a crude onelight for editing will do. if you're absolutely sure you're making prints and you have no special effects, this is the cheapest way.
now if you're doing the entire post in high def anyway, color corrected or technical grade, and the end format is hd/sd then digital is probably a better idea. then just take the master to a lab and have them make prints when you need it. this will let you have a high quality version earlier on in post, i know several people who took the above path and are stuck with a video workprint and no more money.
