The hot spot in the middle is what gave it away for me - you'd see that when the image is projected, not on the actual frame. Which is why I think the Top Gear stuff is video - unless of course they do an off the wall telecine

Pardon me, no offense intended, but,
I think you just enjoy wasting others time trying to be clever with your antics, and probably deserve having Alex for a roomate.
Why would anyone care if your images are what you think they might be?
Maybe the contest should have been deciding if YOU are real or fake.
I hope you find some satisfaction in that you may have fooled someone, if that is your thrill. I'm completely at a loss to understand your motivations.
I am glad i did not participate in your sham of a sham of a sham, since i already have a fine bucket, and a walrus.

 my guess is i posted this to give myself a good laugh at your expense RET80. what goes around...

I don't know what this is all about but I enjoy challenges like this - it makes me think about the various qualities of film and video - it's a good mental challenge.

I'm still waiting for Roger's 16mm vs HD clips he threatened to challenge us with once!

Actually, I think it was just film vs digital images in general for those that claim they can always spot a digital image. When I can find the time to replace the siding on my house, then I'll have the time for film vs HD fun and games. ;)

I am sorry, i didnt mean to belittle your participation, i probably should have sent that as a private message or email. i seem to get confounded by the endless ongoing debates over film v. HD{video et al.} and that's not why i enjoy this forum. as brain teasers go, i guess im not expert enough to find a reason why any of that matters to me. i shall refrain from such lame attempts to amuse myself and hope Roger gets his siding up in time. Actually i need to apologise for my evil twin roomate, let's call him "Hank" who happened upon my login while i was indisposed. I want this thread locked so i dont get flamed or quoted more.
Pity is, in all humour there hides some truth.

I do not enjoy wasting others time. I made this thread for fun, as stated in the FIRST post. It's for people to share their knowledge of celluloid film. I don't really have a prize for anyone, I was simply trying to keep things enjoyable and lighthearted. If you have an issue with me please keep it to a private message, thank you.

"Moving on"

Before i get really wacked by someone, i want to post my PM reply to a seriously disturbing PM received from the threads author:

i couldnt see how you could have posted that if it wasnt a fake image somehow. being totally baffled as to your point, i muddled my way through the thread, and thought i could parady a previous tragic thread dealing with film/video, and it had me in stitches anyway. i dont feel there are any issues with me, except maybe im coming from a different universe altogether. if i dont have a right to expression no matter how serious or tongue-in-cheek, then you certainly have issue with me. my interest in the forum is film cameras and film mainly 8 or s8. so i will stay out of the areas i dont belong and that ends my interest in how a film can look like video or a digital image can be made to look like film.

That's so much grain I suspect that shot is a blowup from 35mm. That IMAX frame looks as big as a 6x7 medium format frame!

I have always found print stock to be pretty grainy, compared to reversal of the same size. So it isn't surprising to me that the IMAX frame would look grainy. The higher resolution you see on a theater screen is the same effect we see when we look at super 8 projected. 8mm film at running speed produces a much less grainy looking image than a single frame of the same film.

I just got setup in a new studio space and have a great picture window overlooking one of the main streets in toronto. I've been projecting some old kung-fu, godzilla and various movie trailers onto a a sheet covering the window. Been getting some great responses from people passing by.

So does anyone have any obscure films they would be willing to take off the dusty shelves and give them some new life out here?
I may have some old Doctor Who and Red Dwarf.
