H16 RX lens on beaulieu 4008?

Post by loublouet »

Hello everyone,

I've owned a 4008 ZMII for a few years but I don't completely trust my 8-64mm f/1.9 angénieux anymore, since it has been recently knocked.
My question is basic: is it possible to use a C-mount H-16 RX 25mm f/1.4 SOM Berthiot lens with my camera?
If the answer is negative, which other lenses would you suggest?

Thanks, Etienne

Why don't you trust it? The great thing about cameras like these is you can actually see through the lens and determine what the image is like (bent perspectives or straight, etc.)

Are you worried because you dented the filter ring? Or do you think you bent the very c-mount of the camera body? That would be quite a feat.

The obvious answer it run a roll of film and see how it turns out.

I apolgize for not answering the basic question you asked though. I am sure someone on here has tried what you suggest. I have run c-mount adapters to Nikon lenses and had fine results. I see no reason why the H16RX lenses would not also work unless they seat to far into the camera body...but I would think the reflex viewing would show you the focus issue on that score...

No Bolex RX lenses will not work on the Beaulieu they will not focus and are designed for the Bolex Reflex camera only. Other non RX Bolex c mount lens will work fine.

C mount ( Not CS mount ) cctv camera lenses will work also although you might encounter back focus issues especially with the lens aperture wide open which give you slightly soft images. I have a 6mm cctv prime and a Fujinon zoom which works quite well on my Beaulieu. With the 6mm prime I have a wide angle converter coupled to the lens which gives me quite a wide effect. Equivlent to a 20mm lens on a 35mm stills camera.

ive heard that you can use the rx lenses as long as its at 2.8 or higher. id consider getting some non rx primes.they are affordable and all things being equal images are sharper with primes.

In fact the camera fell heavily on the ground and there are small but clear marks of injury on the side of the lens (also on the body but they seem to be less detrimental).
What scared me the most is the fact that to adapt the viewfinder to my vision, the adjustement of the ring was completely different after the shock than before, suggesting that "something has moved inside"... (as you have guessed, I'm not a specialist, only a super-8 hobbyist :-))
I was able to finish the roll, but stupidly I shot the last few seconds in low-light conditions, with aperture wide open, so the result is quite grainy.
I will leave on vacations soon (to Rumania) and probably won't be able to re-test the zoom before I leave. That's why I'm a little bit anxious...

Thanks to all for your answers.

Etienne
