My low-budget film project is now airing on TV

Post by Bloomsday »

Hi everyone.

Some of you may remember a project I was talking about many months ago. I posted an article about it a while back:

http://www.thecommonspace.org/2001/07/media.php

Me and another guy just decided to do this and now the thing is on TV, we've been written up on the front page of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and just yesterday we were interviewed by Fox 2 News, which is showing a feature on us tonight at 9pm in the Saint Louis area. It's been a wild ride.

Anyway, it was shot on 16mm, but I am an avid super 8 enthusiast and so I thought you all might like to see what I'm up to. I know I always like to see what other members are doing. Check out our website. There are 10 thirty-second commercials available for download in QT and Realmedia formats (Windows media coming soon). Also some technical details and other information.

Check it out:

Thanks guys!

Great stuff!! seriously.

The World's Fair Pavillion by far had the best photogprahy - very dramatic. The colors and light just danced.

Metrolink was the most fluid - though it only inlvolved 5 cuts.

The most intimate was the Rock. The faces and movement I thought gave the piece the most human touch - even when compared to the others with naration. Least self conscious.

Just great stuff.

Thanks... I appreciate the feedback. I haven't gotten a whole lot of input from fellow filmmakers so it does really help.

I actually wrote and recorded the music for the Pavilion spot as well, and it is definitely one of my favorites of the bunch. I shot most of the spot at 2fps with tungsten balanced film (no filter) to create the constant lightning/glorious blue sky combination. Other personal favorites are "Exploring" and "Soulard Market".

That's a really interesting comment you make about "St. Alphonsus". I totally agree, it IS the most intimate. The priests and congregation are just so friendly with each other, you feel that there is a real sense of community. I like that.

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to check it out.

Nice!
The Pavillion's one is my favourite too: weird location, calm and mysterious atmosphere, nice light...
And a well made mix of music and sound effects.
Good job!

I really like your pieces... excellent job. My favorites are the Pavillion (great lighting!) and Film Show (I forget the name) shorts. Good luck with them.

OK, enough 16mm for you... back to super8!
