E64T and airport X-rays

Post by fireflame productions »

Firstly, let me say that i know that thre have been many topics on airport x-rays but not many after that bomb scare.

Anyway,
I am going on holiday to the South of France with my parents.
I would really like to take some E64 (super 8 film) with me but i don't know how the film will handle the x- rays. I doubt i will be aloud a hand expection seen as everyone thinks you are going to bomb the plane.

i know K40 could handle the X-rays quite well but what about E64?

Thanks in advance,
Ross Gardiner

I have passed E64T carts in several airports and there was no problems. Most of of the X-ray scaners in airports do not affect films with less sensitivity than ISO 1600.

Good Luck!
Carlos.

I traveled to the Netherlands 2 weeks ago with my stills camera and Polaroid 690 100asa and Polaroid 667 3000asa film packs.

I went through the xray machines for hand luggage without any problems at all. Used some of the left over film when I got back and it's still fine, no change. I know it's not super 8 but it is very fast film.

Same thing with the xray machines when I went to Spain and France last year with super 8 (with tri-x, K40 and 64T) no problems with the film at all. Some of the trix made 2 trips back and forth to spain doubling the xray exposure and was still fine.

So you will should be fine within the EU.

Chris.
