I was wondering when somebody would mention web nukes and internet rage, see the NYTimes article in the Brooklyn stores link mentioned previously.
I just purchased an air ticket on Ryanair's London - Frankfurt - London for early August, listed as £10 total round trip (return) on their site. After all the details it ended up paying £70! Went up because it was for my 14 year old who's on a student tour, and had to telephone the ticketing agent which lost web discount, plus they charged £10 for the check in luggage up to 20kilograms. If you miss the return flight, it costs several hundred pounds for a one way ticket back!
Maybe I'll give 'em a Super 8 camera and film to document the flight!

No, I think B&H is great. People should use common sense when buying from a bargain-priced mail order operation they've never heard of.Lunar07 wrote:This is the wrong lesson to learn. I am in Texas - do you mean I should not buy from B&H or call Cavision directly in Canada?reflex wrote:Ignore them and buy only from a reputable dealer that is close enough to visit in person.
I still thing the best way to know exactly what you're getting is to buy it locally from a knowledgeable dealer. Of course, that's becoming increasingly difficult because the little local guys can't compete against the online retailers. It's a catch 22.

You know Roger, wouldn't it be funny if someone actually buys this thing (if it exists at all,) takes it and the warranty card into the Canon Service Center, and says, "hey, it doesn't work." What could they do? I mean, it does have a warranty...MovieStuff wrote:Sure. Warranty on a camera that doesn't work!Jim Carlile wrote: (I love the U.S. warranty reassurance.)
Who's Yale?No kidding. (At least Yale tells you their policy up front ;) )Jim Carlile wrote:This goes beyond deceptive.

Yale is the lab that with holds (destroys?) your film if they don't like what's on it once they've developed it. Apparently it's their right.Jim Carlile wrote:Who's Yale?
From their site:
http://www.yalefilmandvideo.com/Terms.htmSUBJECT MATERIAL POLICY
We realize that the artist has full and total choice of expression. However, we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone. As a policy, we do not and will not process, print, repair, or transfer any film containing: nudity, pornography, sexual acts (either real or simulated), lewdness, satanic, occultic, religiously blasphemous, exploitative of children, debasement of women, containing S & M, anything illegal, or in any way extremely offensive to us. Nor will we participate in the desensitization of or the glorification of killing, rape, violence, gore, suicide, torture, profanity, etc.… whether in visual or audio form.
The obvious problem is that you can't easily define some of these things. What would they make of an anti-rape or domestic violence film if they saw the scene in which the abuse is taking place - would they withhold that footage?
I mean how prudish are they - what about a simple fun film like Sirens that has heaps of nudity in it, what would they make of that - away from the obvious extremes (which I support them on) how do you define profanity?
Anyway Yale has been discussed to the death here before - but to be honest I find them almost as off puting as the dickwits selling the GL2 shell as well.
Just because it's their right doesn't make it right. Obviously in the extreme cases like abuse, child pornography etc, everyone would support them on it, but there appears to be very little grey area, or tolerance of it with them. In My Image was about racial tolerance and religious tolerance, under their rules I wouldn't have got my film back because you see a murder. So their policy would actually defeat their aims of encouraging tolerance and respect.
What would they have made of it if I had shown topless New Guinean women?? Why are they afraid of things like this?

A) Yale doesn't hold nor destroy film if they don't like what's on it.Scotness wrote:Yale is the lab that with holds (destroys?) your film if they don't like what's on it once they've developed it. Apparently it's their right.Jim Carlile wrote:Who's Yale?
B) Jim already knew who Yale was because he and I have debated the subject to death. He was making a joke in response to my joke.
C) Let's not talk about Yale.

Roger,
This website has alot of interesting information on this and related rip-off websites operated by this "individual'.
http://sheddingsomelight.com/buy-camera ... ccfam.html
7 fraud sites are listed, and I'm sure this dipstick stays one step ahead by opening up new bogus sites.
The name on all these related fraud sites is someone by the name of Zaki Saideh. He and his associates are obviously in the business of internet fraud, and I hope a "black ops" team from some government agency take them out, and soon!
It wouldn't surprise me if this was a fund-raising operation for Islamofacists.
Regards,
Jon

That's only the tip of the iceberg with this company...

And..

Why this company is still in business, I have no idea.

Ah! You do have quite an imagination. But sorry to crash your 'party.'jholmesh wrote: The name on all these related fraud sites is someone by the name of Zaki Saideh.

This last name is actually a Christian Greek Orthodox family. This makes him a Crusadofacist I suppose. Geeeeeeeeeeez!
Lunar,
You may be right, but I rather doubt it.
A metasearch on those names indicates Arab/Lebanese origins. Even so, their nationality doesn't really matter.
Please don't mistake my "rants" for anything other than disgust with rampant internet fraud, and the seeming inability or unwillingness by law enforcement to effectively deal with it.
I'm really NOT a redneck.
Although, I must admit, I do chew tobacco!
