Just some interesting pieces I spotted whilst browsing (not the seller).

You are inviting people to auctions of which you are not the seller and therewith enlarging the bidding audience and thus the chance for higher pricers. I.e. people who find these goods by themselves are confronted by a larger group of bidders thanks your broadcasting amongst people who likely had not found these themselves.

See how you like it when an auction is brought up here for which you yourself were planning a bid. Then of course you would not bring it up.

You might try minding your own business and discuss ended auctions only.

Hi Muckymuck - you intentions might have been honourable - i.e. you thought you were being of help - but now you have blown these wide open - the beauty of eBay is sometimes you win sometimes you loose - now someone with more bidding power has been tipped off.

I was watching The Agfachrome, and I don't care more people bid, because the next day there is another similar item on the bay. Plus, I don't think 50 people reading this post will make a difference. But you're maybe right about the ended auctions, it would be more fair.

I say ebay is a great thing for discovering Super 8 items that otherwise would have been forgotten. I would never have seen a Beaulieu camera in picture without eBay. I think sometimes it is great to share adresses of rare items.

Thanks Mucky, very cool. Too bad the camera won't be shipped to the USA. And don't worry, there is nothing unethical about posting interesting ebay auctions here. People do it all the time. In fact, I have even seen people post their own auctions here.

A person is only going to bid a certain amount regardless of how many people know the auction exists. I always bid $50 on an item. Sometimes I get it for $25 sometimes for $45. But if it goes over $50 I forget about it and wait for the next one. If you really want it, then bid more.

I'm sure there are weirder tactics! When I first go into ebay I used to wait until the last second and bid. I don't like the whole "wait til the last second" thing anymore because I would end up paying more than I really wanted to. Now I pick a price I am willing to pay for an item and put that in as my highest bid. That way I don't pay any more than I am willing to spend. Not to mention it saves my wife the aggrivation of listening to me rant when I spend 2 minutes in a bidding war and lose.

The biggest lesson I've learned is that there is always another chance. I can't count how many times I've seen someone claim they had "the last one in the whole world" and then 2 months later there is another one.

Hey don’t feel bad about it – I didn’t take any offence - like I said your intentions were honourable! As you saw, someone was unhappy that you’d exposed them. I was just advising caution - It’s a subject of contention – some people post links to interesting items on eBay to open up a discussion.

Don't let it bother you. Some people think too small to begin with considering the massive number of people with free access to the same information that you posted. There is probably over 100 million registered ebay users by now. Posting an auction on this forum for others to see is no big deal compared to the number of people out there that can find it on their own anyway. It's not like they will be the last of those items ever listed either. I doubt if your posting an auction link will have any significant effect on the outcome of any auction. :roll:

Well, you are completely wrong. It has already been demonstrated that after posting an auction link here suddenly 3 members of this board bid for it. Unfortunately before that I was the sole bidder and monitor of the auction. Thus it clearly demonstrated that more bidders make the price go higher.

The only bidding strategy that is proven to work on eBay is bid once and very near the to the end of the auction. I.e. it makes for lower high bids and a better chance of winning the high bid.

It really would, on purpose, require hard thinking to come up with such a pack of chaotic nonsense thinking as you demonstrate here. "I always bid $50" :lol: with tears from my eyes.
